Well I can see it's not an isolated thing. I had left Tunngle signed in all night so I checked on it this morning to see someone posting +2 for a 3v3. I open up FO and join the game to be greeted by someone with the username "Old_Time_Pro" saying "kick it" and "unknown". He was referring to me. The host of the game was polite but this guy was just shocking. I left the game and just signed out of Tunngle.
Don't get me wrong, I've had a few good experiences in the last couple weeks but stuff like this is baffling. He was one of the most rude people I've encountered online for years. I just don't get why people think they can be like that online.

cbosdell, when you go out of your house entering the real world - do you see smiling faces all over the place? All helping each other and be kind to each other? I suppose not.
After following this thread for quite a while I really consider to close it. It's senseless and some here react over sensible to things that are worth a hot fart in the wind. You can't expect to find the pleasant Enterprise world on tunngle in the Fleet Operation channel or anywhere else. Dishonesty, rudeness, respectlessness - all of this is part of our lifes, unfortunately. You made your point and so you tried to better it. As you have proven yourself it doesn't work I kindly ask you (and all others concerned) to let this issue go and next time show those guys how the real spirit of e-gaming is. Kick their asses on the battlefield and don't waste a word. Words feed their ego.

Yep he does this alot...just dont play with him.
When people turn agaisnt him and stop playing with him he will change his attitude, but there are plently of other people who do not act like this unless you have done something to them.

Hmm, usually old_time does that to Kestrel only
.
But I must admit, since the FO community is growing larger I also experienced more unfriendly behaviour. Yesterday I wanted to make a game with a friend of mine who is new to FO. I did some test games against the AI with him before to tell him the basics. We joined a game and he was told "this is no noob game" and then dropped.
I had never seen shit like that in FO before and I hope it won't spread too far.If yomeone is new, what should he do but playing the game?
Anyway, we got a game some minutes later and won together.

I think the behavior is normal. Good people want to invest their spare time in good games not in Newbie slaughters...There should be some kind of rank option for games...3 stages that are visible from the lobby....

i agree with this 100%. in the time ive played online ive seen the community grow, and ive heard from many people about how it was before i was in, and it was small. games were difficult to get going. planning and aranging were necessary. a small group, so very little chance for disruptive behaviour.
i find ideas such as these:

insidious and vile. attitudes like this will just alienate new players, force them away. this community will lose members over time, that is undeniable. some will get married, others will have kids, new things will take up their time. we're not all clintsat, able to neglect our kids and play fleetops (kidding

this isnt a very popular game when you compare it to mainstream online games. we cant afford to haemorrhage players through a giant hole of frustration. every one of us started our time here as a new player. we all made embarassing mistakes (except for mal, he was born elitist), and we all learned. teaching new players in non competitive games not only makes more members for you to fight later, it also helps you retain your skill. ive seen that all too well doing my degree, and ive seen it in mario kart too. my family are crap at mario kart, but i keep playing with them on 50CC mushroom cup to help them get better.
EDIT: killed a spelling error of my own

"Normal" behavior such as indicated by you will quickly ensure there are no "Good" people to play against. They will have moved on to other games. And I'd like to remind those who look down their noses at people like myself: Everyone was a Newbie at FO the first time they played it. Heck, everyone everywhere is a Newbie at something. Like playing outside, or talking to girls, or driving all by yourself to the comic book store or other important stuff like that.Drrrrrr wrote:I think the behavior is normal. I agree, even the new guys need to play and shutting them out instead of giving them games to learn howto play the game is just going to make them not want to return and the community is going to get smaller and smaller and till there is only a handfull of people left which isnt enough for online games.
Community suicide.
