At last! Now I will no longer have an excuse to spam high tier ships! It's great to see the solutions you guys are coming up with to balance this game. I'm looking forward eagerly to the V4.

magnan heals friendlies near the impact, which when attacking the enemy will be right in their fleet. will the magnan array be capable of force firing on one's own units?

hence outside of battle using the phalanx to recharge your shields.

"Phalanx is one of three Flagship classes. This fact is represented as a special passive, which creates a shared cap of 6. You can choose to have a mixed group of Flagships, or invest all your Federation might into just one"

im not sure im understanding this correctly, is this like a special version of the promotion system or a build limit of
6 phalanx/Sovereign/other ship?

eg
2 phalanx, 2 sovereign, 2 other
3 phalanx, 3 sovereign, 0 other
6 phalanx, 0 sovereign, 0 other

Does it only affect allied fed ships or can whatever race you play as be shot back to health?

To answer a few questions:

Yup, it affects all allied ships in the friendly effect radius. Basically all special weapons affect allies, unless there's some special requirement -> i.e. requiring a synergy or a certain faction :)

Yes, the flagship build limit is shared between the flagships of your fleet.

No you cannot force fire the Magnan Phaser on a friendly - that would be a violation of many self-defense treaties :) .

Everything sounds great about this, except the build limit thing. I'm wondering how Feds are going to be able to keep up with the other factions who don't have limits on their most powerful ships. I'm guessing they are much stronger than they used to be?

I expect the Feds will need to rely on synergies and for the bulk of their fleet to come from the 4.0 equivalent of the current Chassis 1 and 2 ships.

Would I be correct in guessing that Risner and Mayson have one Flagship class apiece, with the third being common to them both? And would I also be correct in the guess that there'll be a Flagship class per profile, with the Phalanx being the Offensive profile flagship for Risner, Sovereign being an All-Round profile flagship common to both, and a third class (a reworked Descent, perhaps?) being a Defensive profile flagship for Mayson?

I must give the dev team plaudits for working to give the Federation more depth than the vanilla / tinker toy / n00bsauce gameplay that they've generally been lumbered with in the past. The next version continues to look promising, with the one qualm that the extra inherent complexity will prove too much to manage well with the UI in the state it's in.

so im getting the impression that the sovereign and phalanx are being bumped up to the level of

tavara,Image
S-7 DefenderImage

the borg get the command cube..

what do the klingons get?

So I take it then that the top three ships for the Feds will be Phalanx, Sovereign and Teutoburg, is that correct?

Then the mass build large ships will be Akiras, Defiants and whatever else they put in there which will be equivalent to Romulan Warbirds and Norexans and Klingon Vorchas and and Martok's custom ship which I forgot what it was called.

Are they definitely changing the Phalanx model?

We will definitely be updating the Phalanx model, but we dont yet know if we can make it for the initial 4.0 release, as we have a lot of models to do for new units and effects. If not, it will be in one of the first patches for 4.0 :)
