Who said artillery range? Just seems long to me, and maybe distortion field will be shorter than that.

Maybe if ships with disabled engines didn't slow down so much it would be a bit less painful, i.e. they would carry on moving with a bit more momentum than before and therefore fleeing ships wouldn't be so vulnerable to it, but if you catch them right as they are turning around, it's still very powerful.

Will we be able to refit the Steamrunner to fulfill it's old role as an artillery ship?

OMG... worst idea ever!!

I asked for the McKinley Yard version to remain the old way and Optec said he'd try to remember, so artillery Steamrunner will likely be a map unit rather than a mode-shift.

Yup, Distortion is long range :) the Steamrunner is your powerful long-range killer, but it is slower than normal and the Quantum Pulse does the most damage - so escort it well!

Really glad the Steamrunner is becoming cooler.

Also, I looked at the first screenshot and tried to figure out what was firing at what, and it looked like that one Intrepid was firing multiple shots at first. I see the engine still allows weapons to pass thru enemy ships on their way to the real target. Is that ever planned to be changed?

So it's still just as slow as the old Steamrunner? How does it compare defense-wise?

Oh, and have you guys decided on what the officer and vet abilities are?

Or the steamrunner is powerful enough to shoot through that Intrepid

Optec said in the beginning:

Optec wrote:Yes, you are right! The Steamrunner is back in business and will be available as a buildable ship. In fact, it's the first vessel of the Offensive Profile a Federation player can get.

So you can expect a ship you need to treasure, because it will not be a particular tough cookie but a primary damage dealer.

Space is 3D, so the best visualization is still what we have now :) It would be highly unlikely that you hit any friendly ships on the way to your target except if you were on a 2D plane like a land-based game.

The Steamrunner is higher tech and comes as a nice big punch - yes, it is not a super strong defensive unit, but like all Federation units it does have stronger defensive capabilities on average :)

Most values for ships changed, so baselines don't mean as much  ^-^

There's a large gap between offensive frailty and classic Steamrunner frailty, so my question wasn't answered at all: how does the new Steamrunner compare defensively?
