Today I want to talk about an old, beloved friend. It's been a while since all the Steamrunner vessels left in service were pulled back to the yards and were transferred to the Paulson disassembly yards for retirement. Yet, that's just the official story. At the Paulson Center, they were indeed dismantled. Their energy cores were extracted, their Tricobalt launchers were sent to Vulcan, where they found good use in the latest series of Teutoburg Class ships. But then the official story ends. Instead of retirement, the ships underwent heavy internal refitting. Most energy systems were replaced by compact and fail-safe combat systems inspired by the Defiant Class chassis blueprints. A new warp core offers sufficient energy to power both powerful phaser arrays and a Heavy Quantum Pulse fitted into the main deflector casing.

Looking  very cool!  I really like the quantum pulses on the fed ships, they look nice!  Now you mention the number 7, is that indicating that there will be a cap limit of 7 for the steamrunner class?  Great work, looking forward to future posts and patch's!

So much awesome. the steamy is a well loved design, i'm glad it's getting a place, one that sounds unique as well.

i'm slightly worried about feds having the amazing show-stopping ability of the great and powerful distortion field earlier than sovvie though. even if it is reduced to 1 target. that might actually make it stronger, as before it gave random targets, now you can pick the weakened ship you are chasing.

i think a cap fits well if you are planning that. the phalanx is another fed ship that could get the offence profile, it is capped too. feds would probably cap their offence ships.

now we can also speculate on what special the sovvie is getting to replace its pilfered distortion field.

Welcome back Steamrunner. It has been so long. Please, make yourself at home in my fleet.

The best part is that now it has a phaser like in First Contact, but also retains the high damage long range role from the Armada series. And - Quantum Pulse.

Yeah.. it's good to see the Steamrunner return in a combat role instead of the A1/A2 travesty of a Artillery vessel. :innocent:

Thats awesome news i loved the steam runner. Too bad its no longer a torpedo ship i loved the damage it could do against those mining stations hehe just not when i was on the receiving end.

Is the steam runner going to be built from the Antares yard or the Eraudi?

Absolutely fantastic, I always felt the Steamrunner was under-represented in star trek games.

Very nice, a Steamrunner that might actually frighten some captians. A couple of things I'm curious about, Is the special still a shockwave and is the SteamrunnerA still in as map-unit artillery?

the distortion device is no longer a shockwave, its a single target artillery snipe :) I will try to remember adding the old steamrunner with tricobalt torpedoes.

There is no cap on the Steamrunner by the way, the "7" in the tooltip are just lore. They chassi upgrade was put into mainstream production

whoa artillery range engine killer, i'm afraid the steamy is becoming a m-m-m-monster.  :o

A lot would depend how it is balanced within the new system.

On the surface though, I do see the potential for abuse. It could negate the speed advantage of short range ships and sit back out of range.
