Remember the Ratio-tanking rule.
More DPS out, less DPS in.
That's the theory behind the non-regen3 Spheres. It relies on your opponent not having enough ships to break the sphere in time. Sure, it may not take as many ships to kill it, but it's still a ship with offense and defense in the 60+ range. If it's the Prime3 version, whatever it's hitting isn't getting to use any specials either. That, against some races, is crippling.
As for the Feds, yes, they are torp maniacs, but getting Torp compensation is a bitch. Unless your opponent is insisting on using Defiants, however, the second most common weapon is the beam phaser.
Reduce what you can. Prime3 sphere Canaverals, Generix Support, Qah'duj, Negh'var, Remore, S-7, C-12 Siege Cruisers, and Dreadnoughts. Oh, and Cubes and Diamonds, but they have a stupid amount of power to try and drain. You're still gonna get hit with nanites at least once before you shut them down.

the rule is not to engage a sphere unless u can kill it quick, so your sphere wont get much chance to fire or retreat, just die.

actually at the moment it will just make u weak. maybe after the redo when the romulans use specials so much more then 3 primes will hurt them, but for now 3 prime is bad

the phaser may be common, but i believe that fed ships deal a large proportion of their damage through torps. so beam comp isnt perfect.
most people use spheres as tanks, to go in and soak up the damage. that is there best use imo.

Hi there, I came across your fantastic mod, and I made a couple of borg games.
I just registered to give you feedback and probably some enhancement ideas...
1. the Borg AI uses the construction ship to build the mining base, human player(and AI) should do that as well, but with miner
2. I think the instant upgrades, when buying, should be converted to progress driven upgrades, for all races
3. Incubation centers should use the recrew ability automatically, depending on tactical setting (when in zone of influence)
the crecrew should also be visible by recrew beam, maybe yellow.
a) for Assimilator avatar, the incubation centers should have the assimilation ability replaced with the autoassimilator beam, and it should be an upgrade, probably up to tier 3. This way, you'd achieve sort of "Zerg effect" in terms of assimilation, the incubation centers would serve as defensive building/tower and to spread influence.
This way it would possibly enable sort of tower strategy, the centers could be placed offensively,or to secure expansion.
Or give dodecahedrons the assimilator beam for stationary use.
b) for optimize avatar, the incubation center should also have the progress driven upgrade rather than instant one

5) the adaptor module is pretty useless I think, so make it an upgrade to adapt alien tech.
To enable repair yard, any ship has to be assimilated.
I find it logiacal that if the borg assimilate a vessel, they'd gain access to the foreign tech. Borg should be very quickly gain alien tech. It would make the borg more interesting by more building vaiety.
Probably make the adaption module accessible for diamond. see 6,
a) Adaptors should be built in assimilated small shipyards, pyramids in assimilated enhanced ship yards.
borg should use assimilated buildings more, so only "the 5 platonic solids" should be built the borg way. ^^.

6. borg should have shield/adaptor modules possibly only for cubes and sphere or adaptors, pyramid and diamond depending on avatar. Once an enemy shipyard assimilated, the upgrade for unlock shield modules should be researchable then in repair yard.
I think thats an adaption strategy. maybe the shield module should also use adaptor feature, a terminal adapation module so to speak, incorporating alien tech

welcome to the forums borger 
hopefully you will stick around and contribute, the forum is a great place.
unfortunately that is the only way to get the ai to build them i believe. humans can use the miner to build, but the ai refuses to. maybe they will fix this later, but i doubt its a priority as multiplayer is what fo is aimed at.
these sound like feature requests to me, there is a separate forum for those, you should make new topics there about these as more people will read them and respond there. some of them, like shields for borg and experience for borg have been discussed many times already.
this thread is a news thread.
there are two threads about that at the moment, if u agree with an idea you should voice your agreement in the idea thread itself.
i'm gonna have to disagree with you on that, the adaptor modules are amazing, they give huge damage reductions against the enemy they are adapted for.
finally all that is left to say is that i hope to see u around on tunngle. if u need any help setting up fo for online play dont hesitate to pm me.

Oh, that may be the case, though I discovered the mod for cliffhanger reason in expectation of Starcraft II. :D

Ok, I'll open a thread in the appropiate sub-forum.

I may do so. I have not yet found the recyclying center usefull, since mainly focused on assimilator avatar.

Well, I am actually not the biggest gamer, I am the sort of guy who mods and sometimes writes some modding tool for a game, as I did eg for GalCiv2 I created a mod(TC) with.
I hope I read some feedback on the requests.
