Been a while since I updated this thread.Introducing the Mountshining III Class battleship.

Each one of those red stripes is a graviton disruptor array (similar to Federation phaser array, but it uses graviton particles). Each one of those white dots is a chroniton torpedo launcher. Each one can fire volleys of 7 torpedoes. All 7 torpedoes in the volley can be fired in 1.2 seconds.

Mountshining III Length: ~3,500 metes.
Star Trek Borg Cube: ~3,040 meters.
Fleet Ops Borg Cube: ~1,000 meters.

You might want to think twice before sending a single cube up against this thing. This is a ship that would be built when the opponent already has several (if not many) cubes.

Its...a box

No, it's a box with wings!

So? Cubes are just a box as well.

Well that picture is irrelevant to this thread, so what's your point?

Your whole thread is irrelevant to this forum, so what's your point? :P

sorry its just a joke, homer is shouting about a box (relating to Squire James post about a box) just projecting some humor into the thread :)

I got the joke, classic episode when he thinks bart has been turned into a box!

Honestly though Chapman, you know my feelings on your project and this box with wings thanks to your facebook post... A cube maybe a box but it is a box with a lot more detail than your box with wings...

Oh sure. I post a model that's clearly a WIP (as if the lack of textures wasn't enough of a hint) and you criticize it for having a lack of detail. I just have a hard time believing that you're making an honest criticism of the vessel.

I've partially modeled 42 of the 50 graviton disruptor arrays. The polygon count is just under 22,000. That number will go up when I put in all 50 disruptors and remove the polygon overlaps. Not to mention the FOUR deflectors, 8 chroniton torpedo launchers and 2 singularity torpedo launchers.

From a purely programming point of view (not taking into account artistic critique etc) 22k Polys is WAY too high for that model.

Those strips of yours can either be made with 8 sided ends, which will give the same basic shape with a lot lower poly count, or you can simply texture them on (especially using bump maps). Adding "detaiL" with that excessive amount of polys is never going to work.

Minus your strips, what is the poly count like? I get the feeling your main hull section might be composed of far too many polys.

Are you for real? A work in progress can still have detail in it! My honest criticism is based on all of your work, not just this that you have never ever textured! just look back at the pages in this thread alone!

How on earth have you got that to 22k polies!!! That should have next to none considering its basic shape, easily under 200! The ship i showed you on facebook was under 4k and was much more complicated than this giant box with wings, and even modelled the darn phaser strips!

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2769

hell, this WIP from when i first started modelling is more complicated than that and a lot less polies! notice how i use the texture to add detail without modelling it

First off, a slight update. With all 50 strips in, the poly count is now ~24,500. Right now, the hull plus the engine nacelles have a poly-count of just over 2,200. The hull itself has 280 polygons.

UPDATE: Okay, I made new disruptor strip models. They have 54 polygons each. 50 strips will generate a total of 2,700 polygons (not counting hull and nacelles).

2000 polys on the nacelles alone? and somehow 20k for a bunch of tiny strips that could be textured and bump mapped (or modelled with far less polygons)?
