It just doesn't seem different enough

If the saucer would get different textures on the front half, it would still look "new" or "stand-alone" enough to be considerable a different class than the Galaxy. It also still fits a lot better than a Dawnstar-saucer since this class more reminds me of an Ambassador-successor without any chance to make me recognise a Galaxy in parts (except for the deflector dish in some unignorable ways).

I personally don't doubt blade will come off with something great in the end, but for now I still more like the one Lt.Cmdr Worf has shown.  ^-^

I personally do not think a Galaxy II is needed, not yet anyway, however if you are determined to have one and if at some point the Mod Staff agree, a CYO...Galaxy like how we did the Excelsior would be a good option.

The reason I argue against a Galaxy II is that the current Galaxy is still a very combat effective starship, capable of battling most current buildable heavy cruisers and if taken care of it can become a very effective 'free' battleship!

Furthermore, if any additional II's are required, I'd suggest pulling from a list of long serving starships who are no longer in front line service. Constitution II comes to mind.

Between the two, I like neither. The first model, I agree with Worf on, it reminds me of some sort of ambassador class, especially with the Dawnstar saucer. However, regarding the second ship I think it has WAY too much going on, and if simplified would make a nice design, the reedeming factor about the current II's are that they are not just loaded to the brim with polgygon consuming tid bits and doo-dads but are classily constructed and very appealing to the eye in a much simpler fashion with the majority of their nice details stemming from a good texture.

I can't remember someone telling that a Galaxy-II is needed.
The only thing this thread is about is just modeling a Galaxy-II. It's a modding topic, no request. For a request, it's just the wrong forum section.

Building off the G-II suggested by Lt.Cmdr Worf , I thought I'd try my hand at making a few modifications. Like Rhaz, I think the thing that let this version down was that there seemed to be a little too much going on. I simply reduced the spread of armour plating, restricting it to protecting areas around the impulse engines and vulnerable neck area and then lightened the colours slightly to reduce the emphasis on armour. Those with a sharp eye will also notice that I reduced the width of the nacelles ever so slightly, just enough to reduce the feeling of fat legs. :)

Excuse my slightly dodgy editing by the way :D; I have limited access to decent editing software and of course time.

I like yours a lot Phoenix, I mean all the models are excellent! I mean no tresspass against any of you fantastic artists. All I could dream about would be ever so slightly smaller impulse enginers, IE making the top ones the size of the bottoms ones, but you know what, I'd use this one in my game. =).

And regarding my first post, I was just musing on how the Galaxy II would be totally unneeded, that is unless the Galaxy wants to be the flagship again ;).

Blade, please think over the nacelles once again. The models aren't that bad, but the textures are making them look silly in combination with the rest of the ship. The "fat" ones you used before looked and, more important, fitted much better to it.
The saucer is pretty good now and fits for a possible Galaxy-II.

the texture is just to show wot the ship may look like in the 1st post it was said only the mesh was needed and they'll do the texture

The Saucer looks great now! I just find the nacelles to look busy and unprofessional (Just due to the fact that they are quartered off) when looking from the center, perhaps only have bussards on the top? The doubling of the impulse engines seems a little much to me too, and the superstructure seems a little high and exaggerated. However, the model is coming along quite well! Otherwise excellent.

Nah to the nacelles, still. I actually rather liked the Phoenix/Cmdr. Worf nacelles - the whole design in fact - although they were a little far forward making design a little unbalanced. These just seem too dorky and amateur-ish. In fact they almost steal something from the grace of the ship. This is mostly because they are static. If you look at the nacelles of the original Galaxy, they taper towards the front on all sides which creates a sense of movement. These just sit there because they are square and simple. Reduce the impulse engines to a single bay and remove what look like engines from the underside of the nacelle pylons unless you intend this ship to be the fastest ship ever made. Also, would it be possible to increase the quality of the saucer edge? From the picture it looks really jagged, maybe that's just the viewer you're using, but if it's the poly count, I would recommend increasing it.
