This idea includes putting a subspace field around the ship that is in a state of chroniton flux. This will block all weapons including chroniton weapons, but if it fails, it'll collapse in on the ship emitting the field and destroy it. Chance of failing is about 99.9%. If it doesn't fail, your ship will be invincible.
I was thinking that some ships could be equipped with this special. The fail rate might make people a little hesitant to use it, but if it works, it'll be worth it. If it doesn't, say goodbye to your resources and your fleet.

IMO that level of chance doesnt belong in a stratagy game. Just think how irratating that would be if you were playing a flawless game and you opponent beats you because of a one in a million chance.

A 50-70% chance of failure would be better.

Seems a bit radical wouldn't you say. Almost god-like.

An invincible ship?
And what do I do against it? Does every race get exactly one ship class that can counter a chroniton flux?
If it would be for only a time of... don't know 30sec - 1minute( a nice time to raid) it might be okay. An interesting idea for Dominion(they don't care about a destroyed ship) or Romulans(thinking of New Worlds, Botf and that episode with Ro Laren and La Forge cloaked).

Probability is actually 1:1,000.
Why a 50-70% chance of failure? A 99.9% chance would be more realistic.
A bit radical, but if it works, use it. If it doesn't, you'll probably be sorry.
Well, I guess multi-layer regenerative shielding would be better suited for the job. It's much more reliable and does counter chroniton weapons. But I'm looking more for something a bit more unreliable so it can be countered more easily.
How would I implement this? I was thinking of using the selfdestruct classlabel that automatically activates when the field is activated.

A 99.9% chance would also render the ability also entirely useless, the model of 'Awesome but Impractical'.
My logic is that since countless Pokemon main games and side games (good games, if you ignore the anime) give the One-hit KO attacks 30% accuracy with little notable changes over their history, a 30% chance of working should be sufficient to keep it useful. It is still an RTS game.

Tyler, I did not catch ANY of that! It's irrelevant anyways.

Not really. Short version: 99.9 = worthless weapon, 30 = decent rate that other games prove works. Also that this is still an RTS that needs worthwhile weapons.
Hardly rocket science.

i dont like this idea. if i wanted to gamble away my resources id go to a casino
99.9% chance - i'd never ever use it. it would be useless. scratch that, i'd use it when the ship is down to 1% hull and is about to be killed. then either i'd get away or just kill it for them, denying them the xp. it would be a boring ability.

If you got it down to just 1% hull, you probably would have too much damage to the ship to activate the field.

There is no chroniton in Fleet Operations
I dont think complete vulnerability is a good way to go.

If this ability works, no weapon will do anything to the ship. Shield Remodulation of the stock Diamond, except on yourself.
