Will it work if you only remove the line from the base odf and leave the ranked-up ones as they are? If that works, it would drastically reduce the number of odf's you'd need to edit.

presumably, as the ranked up versions aren't built (don't quote me on this).

but then you're still left with 1 odf per unit.

it's easier just to use notepad++ to edit all of the files, including ranked up ones.

Hello again, I was just wondering if it was possible to add buildings to captured enemies constructors, in addition to the mixed-tech yard.

yes, add the build item to any constructor you like. change the buildablebyownerraceonly=1 to 0 in any building you want to be built by another race.

How do we do that? :(

I already have the modified ODF for the ships, however the constructor only show the mixed-yards options.

adding builditems is a little bit beyond my talents. i did it for stock a2 many years ago. but i now lack that skill. sorry.

just remember that each constructor (2 for each avatar, built and starting) must have the builditem.

Unfortunately, in FO every building requires that you be the race it belongs to to build it. e.g. you have to be a klingon to build a field yard. It would take a lot of work to remove this feature.

I'm aware of that. However, if we are to add, say, just the starbase and field yards, it shouldn't be too much work, no?

If anyone could indicate which files to modify, it'll be greatly appreciated. :)

afaik you just add the building to any constructor you like, but in the building's odf, change

buildablebyownerraceonly = 1

to
Code: Select all
buildablebyownerraceonly = 0


that will allow any race to build the unit, provided the constructor has the builditem entry. now adding builditems is what i am unable to advise on.

Yes that would do it besides any tech restrictions you have to fulfill, however you will have to fix that line in every ship you also want to be able to build, and there are some weapons(replaceweapons) which also have race requirements(replacementCondition).

On top of that, you have to decide which avatar you want to be able to build from, as each avatar has a completely different set of odf's.(and techtree for that matter)

If you've added something to the buildlist and it's not showing, maybe editing the builditemXavailability code should help? That's what makes things invisible under specific circumstances.

Shipyards don't seem to have that code and I think all ships are visible to whoever has the Yard, so removing the line should make stations available to whoever has the Constructor.

Actually, they do, and the Romulans implement it more then the others. One of the ships has subclasses that aren't visible until you research the upgrade. At that point, they are visible and buildable.

I've implemented the same in my mod, where tech isn't shown until you meet the requirements. For my mod, you can see the tech you can research right now, and when you finish researching it, you get something new that wasn't there before.

Use the guide to find out what number means what. If you need some help, let me know.

Forgot about those... that's unique to the Romulans and Dominion, though.. It isn't the norm for Shipyards and most go without.

I don't know. If I steal a klingon constructor ship, I should be able to build everything that vessel containing, including a klingon shipyard :-)

You should be able, but it was removed because few races ever actually would. They'd just use the tech to alter their own designs like Mixed-Tech does. Canon generally backs that up, since all non-native ships were captured or traded.

Why they can't build their own designs out of alien yards or constructors is probably more of a game thing than realism, since that should work as long as they have the blueprints in the computer.
