"Venture-class" isn't really called that

The only reference to the name Venture comes from A1 and 2, and there are other sources that call it Talon-class.

The only canon reference is in Insurrection where it is simply called "Mission Scout Ship". I would like to suggest at least a revision of the name Venture because as the Memory Alpha Article states, it conflicts with the galaxy class ship of the same name.

I'm just throwing this up in the air to see what people think, and whether they actually care at all about the naming of this fairly insignificant ship

As a sidenote, the "-class" suffix seems a bit much for something barely bigger than a shuttle craft anyway.

i personally think we could give it some upgrades, and maybye design a special fed scout ship, for spying purposes, or some other special thing, like an attack squadron ability or somtuing

:ermm: Than what about the Daunbe-class be, if it's about the same size as a Venture (slightly bigger than shuttle)?

The Venutre Class has no canon name, therefore it is called whatever the game wants it to be called (Venture works fine).

It doesn't have to conflict, we don't know how long the class has been around, it could be a modern version of an older class. The prototype could have been destroyed before the Constitution was launched for all we know.

In fact, only a very few ships have a canon class name. The Constitution, Galaxy, and Defiant are canon, but most names given are not stated in the show. This includes many common ships, like the Ambassador, Miranda, Sovereign, Nebula, Akira, Steamrunner, Norway, Sabre, Oberth... It's all made up from background information, none of it is really "canon".

So what's the problem with the Venture's name?

Do names coming from background sources and production notes count as non-canon?

Of course they do, otherwise there wouldn´t be much of a canon.  B)

Correct. "Canon" is what you see and hear onscreen. That's all. Anything else is non-canon, technically speaking, although background information (books, tech manuals, whathaveyou) is generally accepted.

Though some (like the Akira) are considered canon, because the ship designer called it that.

Which is not the case with this ship. Which is my point.

Yes i knew the Danube would crop up, but that is a Danube-class runabout, not a starship. And this ship is definitely not a runabout, it is the same size as a shuttle, with apparently less interior space.

I think we will stick with the Venture Class ^-^

hmm, i was thinking tho, we could update the design a bit........ maybye add something else, anyone here venture mark 2? i just suggest this, and in advance im sorry that i bring up the feds, but as this is set in the future(past stock armada one and 2), we all notice, that the fleet ops team has excelsior mk 2 and miranda mk2, so wouldnt it make sense to have a venture mk 2, or updated venture? maybye even a mk2 or updated galaxy nebula steamrunner? just a thought, because the venture especially seems like the kinda of ship that would be replaced alot, becuase it is small, and should take a short time to make

I think you'll find that's covered in what I said. It's background information, and not shown onscreen. So although it's accepted by everyone (myself included), it's not CANON.

Why would starfleet update the ship design its not that old?

well, its not that small, sure they may not be that old, but there so small, its easy to peplace them or uprgrade them with the newest things, and with a ship that small, for scounting and such, it wants the fastes engine and the best sensors and sheilds, and weapons, to withstand any attack, and it wants the best design
