well phalanx rush would need some other ships, having a phalanx as your first unit would only work vs newbs.

u have to fast tech up to chassis 3. hopefully making turrets to defend with, and some other ships along the way.

i have a feeling it would fail. even if u could defend your starting moons to the point where u can make your first phalanx, the enemy should have a huge fleet by then and that 1 phalanx wont matter.

Phalanx rush is no serious problem in 1v1 and even not in 2v2 imo. But in a 3v3 it is possible that you support your allies with warpins (costing you only 1time dil and tri) while defending your exp with phasers. In the mean time you build Phalanx as long as you can without beeing much bothered (most ppl will not go for the Fed if cloaking races are present...the expectation is, that your enemy is still in mid-game with many small/medium ships while you can send in small-ship-killers paired with your allies, this can be a very successful strategy. A counter could be to go for the fed first...however in this situation most of your mining will be exposed to cloak attacks...i guess.

This is all a lovely and nice discussion but I haven't had a new replay to watch in ages!!!  If someone doesn't get their arses into gear I will make one and then you all will be sorry.  >:(

(Example of my commentating)
"So, we have, erm, Red, whoever that is, building some... erm, ships.  Yes, definitely ships.  Could be useful against... ermmm, enemies."  :ermm:

Seriously, Yandoman and Mal and others have done great jobs with the commentated replays and dying to see more when the guys get the chance to do them.

Well, I know Early Cube (6mins) works very well in 3v3  :D
I did it with govindaa and someone else (sorry I forget your name), and I was the Borg, and we got a Cube very quickly, then a Diamond shortly after. We won.  :woot:

Cube in 6 minutes.... that is impressive!  You must have diverted everything into doing that and put yourself at big risk.

Resistance is futile when faced by NuclearDude!

I see that "don't spread it around" means something  :hmmm:

Hey but one could argue that there is a huge amount of buildtime for the Cube...and it should be easy to know when the enemy does since the team will not have stuff to build much...  :whistling:

Well, it brings us back to the usual topic regarding good scouting.  Someone doing this is going to be very light on ships.  If you see someone doing this then hit them just as they start constructing their cube and its a massive investment lost.  Klingons and Roms should be able to pull it off with their cloaking ships even if its being constructed next to their matrix... Feds/Doms could have a harder time of it but a strike force should still be able to pull it off and come out of the game ahead.

To protect against this the team doing the cube should make strikes against the other team just before the Borg player invests in the Cube in order to distract them while the cube constructs.

Guys, please post on this topic if you have some game recordings. There are enough topics for other discussions. Thanks.

Fun replay.  Shame Boggz didn't get his SFC up earlier and at his base, think it would have resulted in a much closer game.  Still, kudos for Boggz for his good raiding skillz.

Been wanting for a long time to watch a Fed (Mayson) vs Fed (Risner) game, so thanks guys.

Thanks ^-^.

It was a HUGE mistake to place my SFC at my tri expansion.  Don't quite know why I did that ... think I was just needing to put it up asap and my builder happened to be there.  Not really a good reason :D.

My goal after the destruction of that was to try and raid Mort into a resource crunch, but unfortunately he had enough turrets that he was able to prevent me from really doing much.

Another good thing to notice during that game is how hard it can be to control and micro ships in multiple places at one time.  Sometimes even good players will lose ships here and there due to the fact that you can't be watching two things at once :).
