I meant not as a mod, but as part of the original FO and with full dev support.

Megadroid is responsible for the contents of MMM and he also works on other aspects of FO :). MMM being separate from the FO loader means that it is easier to add in fixes separately as well.

yes, at one stage we may merge MMM and FO. i think both projects would greatly benefit from that. as dominus stated, this is up to megadroid. but he was not aversed to that idea, too, when we talked about that a while ago, so maybe sometime in the future we will look into that :)

So In ray terms, you're saying at some point we may have a campaign in FO using megadroids campaign enabling thingy?

I think it may be a good thing. Awesome multiplayer games are one thing, but only a campaign can get you the proper mood. I dunno, but I think a campaign just makes a game more immersive. You're not beating up another gamer online, you are a Federation admiral organizing the war against the Dominion. That only works with a campaign IMO.

I should add though that, even if this should happen, MMM should stay separate from FO, or more precise, there should remain a separate version of MMM. It wouldn't be fair to deprive stock gamers of this awesome tool. (If Chris decides that he has done everything that's possible with stock and wants to move on, that's another thing - but according to him we're still far away from that.)

yes, the question is how many stock gamers there are still out there anyway. when all those remaining little compatibility issues in fo are gone (hopefully i got them all for the upcoming version) and a stock mod runs 100% without a hitch, then those can profit from fleet operations features, too (widescreen, sound engine, tunngle, graphics engine improvements, the many many bug fixes...).

no, the fo campaign is still on (very) low priority. mostly other mod projects would profit from a merger now.

but again, i only discussed that with megadroid in short, there is much much more important work for both of us currently. this is more a long term idea.

Ah, okay, thanks for the clarification Doca.

We should get an icon for MMM maps in the map section. Or a sticky that declasres threads to be opened with [MMM].

just a question because i dont know how things are handled. will the next patch come out when all items on the list are fixed or how do you decide when to release a patch?
posted on October 22nd, 2011, 6:02 pm
Yup, Myles is correct - essentially the list is a way of keeping track of internals and also giving an idea to the forum of what tasks are slated (and how many there are) :) . Some features are quite small, and others large, and the list isn't weighted (i.e. Borg Redo is 1 todo there)

Its mostly just gives you an idea of what direction the mod is headed and what things are most important to the devs.

nope :) we are currently working on a major version introducing the faction redos. sadly these are changes which can not be implemented seperately without breaking balance, so we will have to do them all in one big patch :)

All the faction redos in one patch? Fantastic, even if I have to wait awhile :)
