I like that idea Arash, though the avatar kinda outranks the ship captains, so they'd be disobeying your orders. But starfleet captains do that sometimes...
"Attack their base? Forget it, we're falling apart. Helm, warp us out of here, the Admiral's gone insane!"

I think that idea = free kills for your opponent.
If the idea was to avoid having the Warp-ins act as cannon fodder, having an AI control them is not going to encourage that.
Cool idea though

That idea does have some possibilities to it yeah. but the problem is, there's no way to tell if a ship will warp in and come upone one b'rel, or two Tavara's
so yeah, it would equal a free kill and thus exp for some situations that would unbalance the game.
that's the point of the warpin, to let us have access to ships we see in the show (and the descent) I suppose that if you got a cheesed ship like a Constellation, or some derelict Constitution refit or beat to hell miranda, it would be interesting, as long as the only penalty you took was the cool down time for warpin instead of losing a warpin slot.
what about the possibility to get help from one of your race's historic allies? like randomly picking up a Vorcha if your the federation, or a romulan warbird if your a rogue klingon, etc?

Maybe the historic allies could be added to the single player campaign as well.

If I'm not mistaken, a distress call isn't traditionally encrypted. Let the bad guys have a chance to detect it, and warp in their ships too. It would teach you a thing or two about firing off transmissions while in hostile territory.

I think this has gone way off of what I started with.
Changing the SFC as radically as a number of you have suggested would completely change the mechanic of it and make it ... well ... a little tacky if you ask me
. No offense.
I tried to keep this topic's suggestions based on simple solutions to what I saw as an equally simple, yet far-reaching and weighted problem with the SFC and Warp-ins in general. Now it's all getting on to craziness.

I agree with you Boggz.
SFC will get a more realistic touch with these new additions and costs. The hard part comes balancing all these things together.
