here we go, in response to Crazy Moose's request for a poll about it, here we are.
if you choose "some other ship" Plz post you proposed other ship here (preferably a link to it rather than images cos otherwise it slows the board down).

I'm going for the USS Titan... er i mean the Galaxy 3 lol. cos i like it, and feel it would fill the dreadnaught label that the Descent holds quite well :)

Last night I had an ingenios idea for the Galaxy-3 class. It can be a refit of the Galaxy class, using the same mechenism as the Romulan Rheinn-class varients. Also, mabye it could be Avatar-specific, so the feds don't just get a new battlecruiser handed to them on a silver platter. We'll call the new avatar "Adml. X" for now. Fow adml. X's avatar benefits, how about this:

- +2 credits
- Galaxy class costs 0 credits
- Galaxy-3 refit (**** dilithium, **** tritanium, *** crew, ** supplies, 2 credits) is available

Of course, if the developers don't feel like adding another avatar for every race, I guess Dreadnought label will work, too

For the record, the Galaxy-3 is equiped with a phaser cannon.

This is a NEW Galaxy. It will work fine. In fact, I think the Descent looks OLDER that the Galaxy-3.

Also, I don't think the Prometheus will work as a Dreadnaught. It is much, MUCH too small.

The new Galaxy just looks so cool lol
But I think they should keep the descent as it is, not replace it :P

To me, the Descent looks like a Galaxy/Exelcior/Sovreign kitbash...

that would be the point in refits, ie. your not designing an entirely new ship but refitting & refurbishing an older one :P
@ Baron, why do you want to keep the descent (not questioning your decision, just curious)

@redshirt, try not to double post use the edit function. & yes we know the Galaxy refit 3 has the Phaser cannon.

Figured you would draw the line at 3 posts, not 2. ;)

Anyways, it would be the same ship in textures only, and only some of those. It would be faster, tougher, have better sensors, better warp capability, and be much more powerful. Remember, in "All Good Things..." (TNG) the Galaxy-2 destroyed a Negh'Var in one hit and this is the Galaxy-3.

it's called double posting for a reason  you should just use the edit function anyway.

faster - perhaps, slightly
tougher - again slightly, remember it is only a refit. the only thing significantly improved would be the shield points. Hull only slightly to represent additional armour plating. (but not a lot).
better sensors - carefull now, approaching god ship specs here, we have the scouts so the sensor coverage is covered.
better warp - er... *coughs & mutters* there is no warp in Fleet Ops so...

Those things were not Negh'vars. they were some sort of Alternate timeline Klingon Cruiser. they were far too small to be Negh'Vars.

Faster- definatly, and wuite a bit, too. After all, the impulse engines got a major overhaul.
Tougher- With the addition of ablaitive armor, yes, the hull is much tougher. It's like the cube vs. tactical cube, exept the Galaxy-3 doesn't have THAT much additional armor. Shields, however, would be the same as the original Galaxy.
better sensors- I'm not talking about scout-like sensors, more like deep-space explonation style sensors... mabye exposing a grid or two more space.
better warp- Well, I always play with warp off, anyways ;)
Psudo-Negh'Vars- Mabye they wern't Negh'Vars, but they sure didn't look like pushovers, either...

Because I think it looks good, kind of menacing :D

To me it looks... fragile, considering all the thin and narrow hull sections that connect the three hulls. It also looks kinda outdated, with the Galaxy saucer and Exelsior-1 stardrives... and the sovy nacelles look... out of place.
