in my sight the steamrunner class is not very usefull atm. Why?
You get not enough to put up some kind of artillery that actaully can destroy something
(common: everyone uses descents, and the free credits u get when they get promoted is the room for steamrunners ... so very few)
i personally hope to NOT get steamrunners because a galaxy brings more punch with it and the scan of a nebula is unpayable.

So far i did read the steamrunner class is no kind of artillery ship in Star-Trak but a Frigate which is armed to the teeth and that one would be at least for me more usefull than the actual steamrunner.

My Artillery are Intrepids ... even though i hope the Federation gets someday something that can be compared to the Serkas.

just my 2 cents

A common complaint on Armada2files is that Armada ruined the Steamrunner by making it an artillery ship.

The problem came with the original Armada 1, when Activision got the Akira and Steamrunner the wrong way around.

In the show, we only ever saw the Steamrunner fire phasers, and in FC the Akira only ever fired torpedoes. However, it was never seen as an ARTILLERY ship, just a torpedo cruiser/carrier, so they decided to use the Steamrunner instead. Bit of a mess-up, but what can you do? Looks like the Steamrunner is just gonna be kept as an artillery ship. =(

Yeah, but please make it usefull. No need for a useless ship. Increase defense at minimum.

The Steamrunner is far from being useless. If something doesn't fit in a certrain stategy, it isn't necessarily useless

It still can't defend itself from ships stronger than a scout, not exactly normal for a Starfleet ship. Strange that some want the other ships (like Galaxy & Nebula) to be similar to the show, but want the Steamrunner to be powerless against anything but an undefended station.

I think Steamrunners are good.

I don't use them in main assaults because they do get munched pretty quickly. I usually have them in defense camping just behind my Torpedo Platforms. They snipe attackers as they attempt to break my lines. The prove of their success is clear by the fact they level up much quicker than most other ships that I leave in my defense fleet. If I do take them on the offensive it's usually in a flanking assault where I have more than one main attack fleet moving into a base. I keep the Steamrunners on their own fleet and get them to snipe at stuff. Typically defense platforms. Their triple loading ability is useful too for a quick barrage to deal a mass of damage, quickly.

As Optec was getting at, while they may not fit into usual strategies, they definitely have a place. I actually prefer them to Nebulas and Galaxies to be honest because for MY uses the Sovereign and Akira fill the same mission role in my fleet and do it better (especially the Akira - definitely a cost effective little ship!). The Steamrunner doesn't have another comparable ship that fits into the role I have laid down role it.

my problem is that i cant find a serios role for this ship exept standing back ... which seems to be ok for a artillery ship. But actually i still use descents, which means i cant get alot steamrunners. So its no artillery i can count on ... and 1 or 2 ships firing from artillery range on single ships with only low-medium(with reloadeer a tad more) that cant take any serios hit is nothing i need. Maybe its a good idea to give the ship the area-dmg back ... that was the reason why ppl used it in Armada 1+2 (and a kickasspecial ofc :D )
but actually here it misses both.

i think steamrunner is fine, if you have a well balanced fleet, with ships to guard the steamrunner, and support ships its very effective, however i agree on one point, you dont get alot of them, itd be nice if you could build them.....

I think Steamrunners are the best warp in ship available. The best warp in would be 2 steamrunners and a Galaxy in my opinion.

I wouldn't say no if a short range phaser was added to it though, so it could at least defend itself a bit against a Dominion Bug

That is what my thoughts about the Steamrunner were... it should have at least a short range phaser to defend itself and not just via a fleet of ships surrounding it...

Well the situation is you're never going to get the Steamrunner without a ship to defend it.

well you could give it a phaser that costs special weapons energy to fire but i would never send it anywhere by it self anyway
