The steamrunner is great for long distance targets, but if the enemy gets close it's not going to do very well. Is it possible to give it a small Phaser?

if the phaser is small she won't be able to defend herself...

And the fact is, you'll never get enough of them to kill some buildings or ships before they get shot in to pieces. So it will be useless with or without a phaser...

Enough with making every ship ubiquitous!
Artillery should be defenseless if they aren't well protected.

Except that the Steamrunner isn't defenceless in DS9, it has at least a foward-firing Phaser.

Then explain the point of giving the Newton a Phaser.

This is an RTS (hence balance and clearly defined unit roles). If we would like to bring up the point of how these ships aren't like they are in the movies/shows we could go back to the Galaxy discussion.... but in all seriousness, would you prefer that the FO team just gave it a forward-firing phaser that did zero damage?

Yeah, gotta agree on that point.  If things went pure canon, every ship would get to hit a Borg ship once before the adapted shields started coming on line.  And even modulating frequencies eventually leads to Borg shields.  Not balanced.

I agree with Dominus. If you are so desperate to have your defensive phaser, mod it in yourself! I used balanced fleets with Steamrunners (if I even get them) and would notice 0 difference if it had a phaser or not to be honest.

Yes of course it is but its a Star Trek RTS isn't it?
Adding another phaser may add to the star trek feeling (IMO it just has to feel like a real starfleet ship if its supposed to be one) and it wouldn't really disrupt the balance.
Especially if a minimal range for artillery weapons was to be introduced (which has been requested before) such a phaser could be a useful addition. Of course it can be modded in by oneself but most things can...

Dominus_Noctis wrote:(hence balance and clearly defined unit roles)

I agree that balance is probably one of the most important things but clearly defined unit roles actually seems quite boring and uncreative to me...

I like minimal range for artillery!  No more self-killing Serkas swarms!

Of course, you could give the steamrunner the phaser that the newton has, which is basically useless.

the newton phaser will probably be droped in a future patch

yep a minimum range is on todo :)

Afterall, I believe that the repair refit for the Romies (mixed tech) has no weaponry at all... as should the newton  :shifty:

Yay!  I'll be glad when the newton quits moving away from it's repair post to shoot at flying ships that are just barely faster than it, so it ends up halfway across the map and dead.  (All while I'm managing a surgical strike elsewhere and having to rely on my bases defenses to hold in the meantime.)

I have no problem with the Newton being armed, I just want the damn thing to move when I tell it to.

I think changing Newtons orders (autonomy or whats it called...) is useful...
Movement and specials to red, attack to yellow?
