How about a Son'a collector type station that is similar to the planetary metal extractor; it orbits around a moon and continually gets resources and doesn't need to disengage. Make it limited to 1 or maybe 2 after research or something.
The Son'a should have relatively weak ships, but a special that fires Isolytic torpedoes for a short duration (using special energy like E1). These torps are monsterously powerful but have a chance to disable engines on all ships within area of fire including the Son'a ships that are firing.

Pretty sure the iconians or one of the other upcoming races will have that unique feature

I have been looking forward to the Son'a avatar for a long time.  To that end -

1. I think the Isolytic Subspace weapon should be very random.  Sometimes it does very little and other times it is very powerful.
2. As mentioned by others, they should get some sort of economy boost.  Supply makes the most since to me.  Could be a separate station or an upgrade at the Ketracel Synthesizer.
3. I do not think the Collector ship should be included.  It was built for the collection of those Metaphasic particles.  It was not used to mine Tritaium or as a super weapon.  The destruction it caused was a side effect of its mission.  In my mind it was a one time ship - and that time has passed.

Just my thoughts.

BTW - I have been lurking  :shifty: around for a year or two.  I really enjoy the game.  Thanks for all the hard work.

And hello to everyone.

hello, lurker opinions are valid too :)

i dont think the collector should mine resources. i had an idea a while ago to have it collect nebula gasses and discharge them later. such as collect red nebula gas then drop it between you and the enemy fleet. or collect green neb gas and drop it to recharge your own fleet's shields.

Is this doable in the game?

It is the idea I like the best in reguard to the Collector.

And thanks Myles

dunno, i'm tempted to say its too difficult. but then again fleetops has included some miracles in the past.

The devs sure have pulled out a lot of rabbits.

Could a developer comment on the level of difficulty for this?

I'd love to see the Sona implemented with their canon designs, because they've been a cool race and the Dominion lacks canon ships.
Concerning the subspace weapon:
Out of balancing reasons one can't make it do the stuff it did in the movie, but I think one could copy at least half of it: pulling ships close to the detonation point and disabling engines. Problem: that's quite close to the IS bomb, leaving the pulling effect aside.

I like Myles' idea about the collector, I couldn't think for a different way for implementing it, since Nightfury is right concerning the specialized role of that vessel.

I'd see the Ruafo vessel as a support destroyer with pulse weaponry, replacing the C-11 for that avatar. A special that decreases the damage from nebulas would be interesting, enabling raides through nebulas. I don't think it should get a subspace weapon as well.

That would certainly fit with what we saw in the movie.

i think rofls ship should at least have beams like it did in the film. maybe a beam pulse mix. thats not too common. would give it slightly lower stats than a b8, it didnt seem very strong.

those isowhatsit torps the battleship had were being fired in an unusual area of space, and created that funny rift because they hit something funny. used in the normal space of fleetops they probably would have less fancy effects. but maybe they cant be fired in nebulae. the crews wouldnt risk creating a rift. (they learned from past crews' mistakes :P ).

maybe something along the line of damage bleeding through shields, or damage persisting for a while.

maybe the special could be to target a nebula with the torps with the intention of making a rift. and the rift disables engines for a while for a ship nearby that presumably threw a warp core at the rift to seal it. the nearest ship (including the firing ship) loses engines for a while.

would be a clever way to immobilise someone going through a nebula.

Assault Shuttle = two pulses stats close to Klingon scout like 2.5% more damage and fire rate/ long range/ built at Sona yard
Command Ship = 1 beam and 1 torp like Dom S2 cruiser/ medium range/ built at Sona yard
Battleship = 2 beam and 2 torp(1 launcher)/ short range/ built at Sona Yard
Collector = slow like 8472 Mother/ collects particles from nebula to provide 25% more resistence for harmful or make helpful 25% more effective/ short range/ built like HSA from special Sona constructor

Maybe the collector is a special ship that can create a temp nebula that goes away after 10 seconds or something.

Hmm heres my thoughts for a few ideas.

Sona vessels should be more resistant to damaging effects of nebula or even immune

Sona shuttle - has Isolinear tag special - target vessel gives away position but not line of sight.

Sona command ship is a carrier - shuttles are like fighters. lower in tech tree but nowhere near as powerful as b-5 or avalon
or
Sona command ship - is support vessel with standard beam  weapons and support specials - havent thought of any.

Sona Battleship - Isolytic subspace weapon for special. beam and torp weapons.

Ketracel manufacturing plant - built on a di or tri moon like an orbital facility. generates supply. miners will be unable to mine if the facility is present.

Sona Collector - Should probably charge in a nebula and then expel a radiation cloud that will kill crews of vessels. replaces hyper arty.

The Son'a were just awful in their conception. They come off as nothing but petty thugs who have advanced technology that they have absolutely no business possessing to begin with. When you add the Ba'ku into the mix, the entire affair is best forgotten completely.

Honestly, I'm a bit puzzled why they're even being included when there are numerous, more compelling, races that can actually cut it as a real threat.
