Hey im not sure about the use of the saber, but i wanted to see what other peoples thoughts about it were, what stratagies they used for fed early game, with the saber.

Heres a few facts about the saber

Dilithium Cost: 286
Tritanium Cost:85
Supply Cost:9
Build time:69

Attack: 11
Defense: 12
System: 5

I just find that whenever i use the saber, it is not an effective craft, anytime ive used it, other races seem to get better ships and more ships out faster, and most players dont use it anymore and consider it useless

The problem with this i feel is that if you dont use the saber, you have to tech up to a second chassis and then build a moonsoon and or a intrepid, which most other races at this point can outproduce you,

basically what im saying is that i dont feel like using the saber is a viable option right now, and while yeah you can tech up to better ships, its still kinda a pain, which i think requires you to lean on warp in as your crutch.

Well, a saber with hyperimpulse makes a lickety-split explorer that's much harder to kill than a venture.  I've thought a few times about building a small fleet of them and just setting them all on autoexplore to simultaneously expand my observed area massively without microing 10+ scouts, and annoy the crap out of an opponent.

Are risners sabers betters? i guess i thought that they were just the same?

i forget if they start better or not but risners sabers gain extra offence as they rank up as compared to maysons.

I've got Sabres to Veteran before as Risner.  They are quite useful for such cheap ships.  Useful for chasing those ships which escape battle with 1hp left.

yea and lets give it saucer separation to..

Hey Bassia, this is not a saucer seperation thread, go talk about that somewhere else.

So it seems like the general consensus is use risner if you want to use sabers?

Because basically that is what id like to do, id like to be able to start to build a small fleet and then transition into moons and or intrepids, not tech up to intrepids and moons, and then scurry to get warpin to get somthing of a fleet

Not exactly.  As Risner Sabres are slightly better as you rank up, although IIRC Maysons Sabres are slightly better to start with due to his Antares yard defensive bonus.  So both are not so bad, one increasing in offense the other has better defense.

Its like all ships, especially the smallest destroyers, you have to consider carefully whether they will be useful.  What is your enemy doing?  Check out the counter tables in the guide and see what they are useful against.

At Elite rank they get phasers which can deal up to double damage which is nice, although you still have to remember they are frail ships so need to be micro'd well and keep them away from frigates.

the nice thing is, you can produce them out of 3 yards with only 1 additional dil moon.

Yup, but don't try it against the Borg!  :borg:

that was a pointless post, obviously showing that u dont know how to use the sabre.

due to it being so cheap u can double yard it really easy.

making large numbers of ships. and they arent that easy to counter. bug spam is super duper countered by any support. sabres are less easy to counter, but also less easy to spam (than bug spam used to be)

i did a game once where i started with sabre spam. they lasted for quite a while.

and once their defence becomes a liability, u can use them to go around harassing fast with their special.

miners dont have a lot of defence so the offence reduction doesnt matter much.

in fact sabres can counter counters cleverly. they are long range. and the early enemy ships to counter long range are: b'rel, s2, monsoon, all of these are short ranged, so switch to hyper impulse and sabre gets boost vs short range. negating that counter. which is useful.

also u can get sabres out early.

fed players sometimes start with chassis 1 ships, so they have 1 or 2 ships when enemy has 2 -4 ships.

but if fed starts with yard, they can get a sabre out too. keeping numbers nice and even.

that way u dont have to buy a turret maybe.
