What about being able to place decoys that appear on the minimap as ship blobs? Could provide a momentary distraction :)

I guess I'm thinking a bit of when Picard is lured across the neutral zone to inspect a cloaked probe ... I did it all for nothing!

In order to keep it different from the SFC what if you werent in command of the ship that decloaked.

How about something similar to Dom's blip idea; generating an entire holographic fleet that is indestructible and deals 0 damage but certainly looks real. Could be a great distraction against human and AI players alike.

Actually i had thought about suggestion that idea, but for the federation, rember tng eposide where riker used holograms on the hathaway?

I would never want to use a station like that :D.

I don't think it would be too much like SFC.  Randomly getting resources sometimes and a neato special ship other times is only similar to SFC in the sense that you GET a ship.  I don't think there needs to be SUCH a fuss over "similarities" like that.

Wouldn't it be cool though to have a special Shrike or something like that with abilities that you can make use of :).

A Shrike that came standard with Aldovh type cloak (toggle to fire while cloaked) would be really neat as it can disable weapons on destroyers :).

I always disliked sich episodes. It's even unbelievable that any character in ST is so stupid it can't discern a hologram from a real ship.

There's a ship with the background-stars shining through HMM... it's not visible on the radar HMM... it's not visible on any of our high end scanners but on the optical; no lifeforms, no energy source, no weapons being loaded, no wapr signature IT MUST BE A FOE, FIRE ALL WEAPONS

Tal-Shiar-missions could be of following random creation:
~kill a specific ship
~send a spy onto a some ship
~capture a special ship
~find a derelict

Any further ideas?

Getting resources randomly over time is quite nice but not so much romulan i believe. Btw I love heoes of might and Magic :D especially HoMM3

There is a big difference between a transparent hologram and false sensor data. It isn't exactly rocket science to figure out that fake data can fool anyone until it fires.

Very believable, since sensors are what thery rely on for everything in space.

That's also why I suggested an appearance on the minimap only :)

Then why do people always talk about holograms? Sensor-fooling is truely different and more effective, well again only at long range (and we are talking about several thousand kilometers there, where warp-signatures are the relevant measure).

And that's why dominus ...

Warp signatures are determined through sensors, hull shape is determined through sensors, everything is determined through sensors. Appearing on the minimap only is a sensor ghost (doesn't exist, but appears on the sensors/minimap).

For some reason, it sounds like we're trying to convince each other of the same thing...

Guys, take the speculation on Holograms vs. Sensor foolings elsewhere.  Keep this thread about ideas to make the Intel Center into something neat :).

This reminds me, in Insurrection, we got to see that the federation is capable of applying their observation post workaround to the cloak ban to ships.

I don't know if the romulans could (and certainly don't need to), but the stationary hologram system might be interesting to see.  Kind of like an advanced cloak that goes away the moment you move or fire.

The Feds don't use cloaks on outposts, just holograms like in the Holodeck.

What if you could sabotage the mining operations of your opponents? Disabling some freighter "weapon" systems for 15-25 seconds :)
