Right now the only way to stop your opponent from gathering sufficient resources is by destroying their mining operations.

How about we expand on that with resource raiders/thieves: Small, fast, unarmed and with decent shielding.
These vessels move up to either a mining station or star base and beam small amounts of resources on board, try to get the hell out of dodge and deliver those resources to a friendly mining station or star base.

For the Federation old Miranda class, for the Dominion modified bugs, for Klingons D7  (only armed raider) and for the Romulans a nice twist with their unmanned drone-ship.

I'm not sure if the game engine allows this, but if it does it could mean whole new gameplay.
Perhaps the logic from the trade station can be used.

Edit: I noticed i missed the borg. Any suggestions there are welcome.

Raiders sounds interesting, except the Klingons seemed to use regular Birds-of-Prey for that in the show.

I figured it's be wise to give them something with at least decent shields to give them a chance to survive.

The B'rel is not known for its shield strength in FO

The B'rel also isn't the only Bird-of-Prey in the game, the K'Vort is available in FO.

Well the actual types used for the raiding is up to the developers, but would the Klingon not prefer to use their shining K'vorts to blow stuff up instead of stealing resources  :whistling:

Considering Dukat's BoP was a K'Vort Class used to raid (crew was too big for a B'rel), they normally use them for what they are good at, and raiding is something it's good at.

They're more likely to use K'beajQ and Vor'cha Class for battle, going by DS9. Besides, the K'Vort isn't exactly the pinnacle of Klingon war tech by FO time.

how do these raiders beam through shields?

i was thinking of a similar idea. that if u captured an enemy miner, that u could enter their mining stations and steal their resources. filling this miner up with the normal amount of res and u would have to get this miner back to one of your stations to actually get the resources added to your count. but if the miner dies on the way back they have still lost those resources.

Based upon appearance, I believe the Sang is also a BoP.

i dont really like the idea of ships sneaking in to take res like that. seems too easy.

Endless options if we can believe the shows:

Dominion transporters had no trouble going through DS9's shields when the federation first learned about the Dominion through a Jemm Hadar beaming through the shields and walking through the containment field.

Shields being disrupted by weapons fire, narrow beam transporter and so on. Heck they can bump shields and create a temporary opening. There's always a way.

Remember that something as simple as a transport inhibitor or a scattering field (both mentioned in the series on several occations) have not yet found their way into FO. Could be a nice passive ability though.

we never saw the dominion use their transporters to beam torps in the war, presumably in war shields are modified to be resistant. so they have to be lowered before beaming becomes useful.

It could all be one of those cases where "the new enemy" must be as frightening as possible when introduced.
It can also be that the measure taken to enhance the shields against the Poleron based dominion weapons blocked Dominion transports.

It is also possible that the federation took apart the Dominion transporter in the Dominion fighter they captured prior to the war.

Subspace transport is another option..

As i said earlier, there's always a way so is it really important just HOW they did it.

That makes me want the transporter from the ToS episode 'Operation: Earth'.

Range?  Effectively unlimited.  And powerful enough that the transporter beam, accidentally intersected by the Enterprise, was threatening to overwhelm the shields through brute force.

Now THAT is a transporter!

a transporter that leaves an exit hole lol.
