Before anyone looks at this and says "We have already discussed this. Ferengi are going to be a non-player race", I'd like the chance to show people that they have the chance to be a unique race that is played differently and would be fun to play as a buildable player race.

I'd like to thank TMP Rules for reminding me to do this (by the way, I hope the Son'a are in too. In my opinion, they are the only thing in Insurrection worth watching.)

The reasons why I think the Ferengi would make a unique and balanced race is because of 3 things: a unique resource and 2 stations. This unique resource is of course latinum. I know that the latinum nebulas were taken out of Fleet Ops, but this doesn't mean you have to put them back in for one race. You can get the latinum different ways like:

1) a constant "trikle" of latinum that you don't have to gather, it just comes to you by either doing nothing or having the Ferengi cargo ships come to you. You could make a special station that requires credits(like the cloak generator) that could do this.
2) another type of resource gather that converts dilithium or tritanium(like when they are converted to biomatter for the noxter). This ship could be built at a station that was taken out of FO, the trade station.

The trade station is unique in that you can buy and sell latinum and exchange it for dilithium or tritanium. It would work exactly like it did in Armada 2 except you wouldn't be able to trade with other races(unless you could figure out a way to do it). This station would only be buildable by the Ferengi and would make them unique in that they are the only ones who don't have to wait to have enough dilithium or tritanium to build things. They can just exchange them so they do have enough.

Now, this comes at a cost. Because they would be able to build things faster, I don't think Ferengi ships and stations should be as powerful as others. I think that would balance things out.

The other station that should be a credit station is an Aquisition(sp?) station. This station could be like the Borg Technology Assimilator, where you put a captured ship in and get the technology. In order to balance this with the Borg, you should make the station not have as many slots for technology and that the Ferengi have to capture a ship the old fashioned way in order to get the tech by transporting onto a ship when the shields are down.

As for enough ships and stations, I think there enough stuff from modders and Birth of the Federation game to get ideas from.

I have thought of ideas for Avatars. Instead of people to support, the Ferengi can choose to follow different Rules of Aquisition as their main focus. One of these could be Rule #34: War is good for profit. When you follow this rule, your ships and stations could be better at combat and defense, but you would have to give up something else in order to balance it.

I think I have made a good case for this race to be a playable one. Since the Noxtor may or may not be one of the races, this would make a good alternative. I also think this race would be really fun to play. Every time I would play Birth of the Federation and win was because of the Ferengi.

I think it's a very interesting idea. I think it would add a new way of playing armada 2, trying to get profit instead of trying to blow the other person up

Thats pretty interesting. Now the only problem I can see is that the feringi arnt a waring race, they don't take sides and choose only to trade weapons.

Another problem would be the lack of ships besides the Maurader but thanks to the ability of the human brain to invent new ships, that would'nt be a problem. You also said you could get ideas from the birth of the federation, which i've never played.

Does anyone else think that every race should get trade stations again? Instead of sending useless supplies, you could send dilithium and tritanium (like before but you choose the amount to trade like 1-150 Dilithium and Tritanium and you set how much to put in a freighter at the trade station or on each separate frighter via a neat control. It automatically does this when a freighter comes back from your neighbor.). I could have been able to make a separate post but this kinda runs along this one.

Another sugestion for the Feringi, maybe they could build slightly older ships from other wars that they found derilict? Make those comprise half of their force along with Marauders and whatever else people make up or find.

definatly no more trading stations, all they did was when i got mods was i got them confused with other stations and then destrying them right after...
(i think we're getting into another fight aren't we?)

I disagree. The trading stations in A2 saved my butt a couple of times when I needed dilithium but had too much of the other stuff, or vice versa. This type of station/building is in other games like Age of Mythology and has also helped me win games or missions.

Auron: feel free to voice your opinion. Thats how we, the fans, help the FO team make the end product the best it can be :)

TMP Rules: I like the idea of the derelict ships and salvage, but not making them half the force. I have no argument for it except that I like the shape of Ferengi ships and it would be cool to see more like that.

As for the derelict ships, maybe you could have another station that is either a special one for a particular avatar or general one for all of them. You could call it a Ferengi Salvage Yard or something and make it like the Federation warp-in shipyard(where the Galaxy, Steamrunner, etc. come from). You could have ships from old conflicts from different races warp-in as support ships, but still pack a punch and give more power to the Ferengi. You could make it take up credits or not.

Of course, even if the Ferengi don't get in as a buildable race, you could still do this as a neutral station to hire mercenaries.

Yeah they are already going to put in a junkyard station in I believe, it will be a neutral station but I think thats a bad idea and unrealistic, the only ships you would find in a junkyard is...junk, any older ships that were decommisioned were scraped for parts or thrown in a museum and any damaged would be far beyond simple repairs.

The only reason I said that the Feringi would use alot of captured ships is because well...thats how they are. I would rather used some ships that a few repairs were put on and were almost free then build my own warships and thats how the Feringi do it. Just trying to get into the Feringi mindset.

Guys. dont worry about the Ferengi for Beta 2!!

Thay are done and ready to go when Beta 3 comes out!They are balanced into the FO system fully but they need some special effects to complete that playable side.

Im currently working on a playable TNG-Style Gorn race that you guys will love.

I sent Optec 50 new animated planets also to look at.

I beleive bubba's pulling ur leg, about everything, well mabey not the animated planets, but everything else (no offense if it's true) seems like a joke. First of all, he says they are a playable race in beta 3, and I don't recall any anouncements of ferengi being playable at all. They've made anouncements about the rest. It wouldn't make sense to keep people in the dark. I doubt they are going to add a gorn race either. As they are pretty full on races. That and his user group is "member". I've only been around for about 2 months, so I'm not sure, but I don't think he's on the FO team either.

hm.. but i would like the idea.. would be awesome with the other races that are playable in the next beta... dominion an ferengi.. these two races in the next update would be cool.. :D

PROBLEM ALERT!!!!!!!! umm, u can't put the gorn in as a TNG race, theres a problem with that... THEY ALL DIED! i don't remember when but some race destroyed them all :lol:
