What I was proposing was with the refit you gain a salvo type launch of the Micro torpedos ( but with them there is a chance to miss the small to med ships) so the gain in supposed fire power is offset by the increased chance to miss a ship or station. so it should be a bit of a balance of power . what Ide love to see is a select few of them gain the ability to fire SLAM weaponds. Salvo Launched Area Munitions would be Equivilent to the Soviet Katusha Rockets and launchers great for peppering an area but not a Precise weapond, so there is a Greater chance to miss and the warheads are not Tri Cobaults powerful but there are a lot of them.

as far as steamrunner having a phaser, i dont think so, to me i guess it is a little odd to have a powerful long range ship have low sheilds and its not very fast, but then again its not supposed to be in the heat of battle,
all i could see is a special to disable its weapons and it have a point defense phaser, or increased enginges

I see no reason for it to have a phaser... sure the torp may not hit very often but hey when it does it deals massive damage. If you can use some other ships as a screen to protect it, it can sit back and pick enemies off like a sniper (well its less accurate than a sniper but you know) it ranks up quick and then pretends that shields dont exist. If actually wanted it to be stronger against weak enemies then give it a mode that turns off its weapons and boasts speed or shields or some combo of both.

On that note, I think the Serkas should get dual disruptors. And multi-targetting isokinetic canons.
I'd rather the Steamrunner absolutely lose its artillery role to gain phasers, then have it gain both. That being said, I don't mind it being an artillery boat, since in FO canon it isn't the same ship as in FC - but rather a refit. If compromise was needed, I'd say both types of vessel could be added: a phaser boat Steamrunner, and the current Triloader Steamrunner.
Newton losing its phaser? Come on!!! As far as the Steamrunner gaining one, my brother made a great point. There's no way Star Fleet would commission a vessel for combat, no matter how specific, without the most minimal of defensive capabilites. On that note, why not just add a phaser for asthetic value....perhaps doing no damage, or even the very smallest amount possible?!

Gameplay > Realism and as to the newton if i dont micro them then they always waste their time shooting at ships instead of repairing mine.

That's why people tend to keep them out of battle and repair afterwards. It's better if a Newton that gets ambushed with no combat ships around can die fighting.

Federation ships dont last very long without their shields so once they fall i will be sending it back to the repair yard. The only reason too use the newton is if a ships loses its subsystems.

I disagree
.The repairing of subsystems is indeed a SUPER useful part of the Newton, but as long as the fleets in combat aren't too big a Newton can absolutely keep a vessel alive while it retreats.

Like the Mediterranean and Mandril?

Klingons are more the one to invest time and money into sticking disruptors, ECM systems, and targetting systems on their civilian vessels.

Speaking of which, I'nm surprised the Dominion civies are unarmed. I'd have expected them to have a basic defense since they are crewed by Jem'Hadar.

maybe give them collision
imagine your surprise when a miner turns around and kamikaze kills your shiny (are klingon ships shiny) b'rel/k'vort

Maybe they've bred a different type of Jem'Hadar for the task
