Simple poll, do you think the Steamrunner should have a phaser?

Here is my proposal (if you agree with it select the first option):

The Steamrunner would get a short range, low power phaser, with a slow reload. This would be mainly to make it seem more realistic. The phaser would be quite weak, and would serve just to give it a chance to escape if being pursued by the weakest ships. Of course when using tri-loader the phaser would go offline.

Asked before, shot down before. Steamrunner weapons will be staying artillery over canon.

lol im not saying it should not be artillery, i like the idea of the steamy being artillery, im asking for a cosmetic change, the phaser would not change how we use the steamy, just how it looks. i just think it deserves a weak phaser to fit in with the show.

I know, I was one who asked before. People just prefer artillery ships to be good for that only, even if a Phaser is the only canon weapon the ship has.

Normally, it comes down to the belief that it would be useless because a Steamrunner that is caught alone or loses it's escorts is pretty much dead already.

i know, the phaser would be useless, but it would look nice  :sweatdrop: i dont want steamies running around with phasers AND artillery, that would be even more powerful than now. :P

makes sense to me

I gave mine the Netwon Phaser, and had it disabled when the Tricobalt Triloader was active.

Not tough enough to affect balance, but looks good from a short range.

that sounds exactly like what im suggesting actually.

Newton will probably lose it's phaser somewhere down the road  :whistling:

On that note, I think the Serkas should get dual disruptors. And multi-targetting isokinetic canons.  :woot:

I'd rather the Steamrunner absolutely lose its artillery role to gain phasers, then have it gain both. That being said, I don't mind it being an artillery boat, since in FO canon it isn't the same ship as in FC - but rather a refit  . If compromise was needed, I'd say both types of vessel could be added: a phaser boat Steamrunner, and the current Triloader Steamrunner. :)

Just a thought , I see merit in both, like the Idea of both  A Steam Runner as an Arty  boat and one with a phaser. For a Phaser  refit give it a  short/med range phaser  and remove the tri cobalts and install A micro  torpedo with  a burst fire (Sang Style). By by removing the  Stock Torps and launch tubes  and refitting with  smaller Micro torpedos  but adding  the  phaser ability the ship is  a more  support ship  ratheer a  pure front line Brute. The  system valued should be close to the Original but with increases as it  runs up the  skill scale.

Last time this subject came up, I suggested a refit system similar to the Call to Arms or Type-3 Torpedoes to switch between varients.

Of course, having 2 seperate Steamrunners (1 for each varient) and setting Warp-In to geve about a 50% chance the ship being either could work. That version doesn't reflect Starfleet design ethics as much, though.

I kind of thought about it remaining an artillery-based ship (or long range) and instead having a photon burst as a standard.  The Cobalt's could remain a special and be implemented when Triloader is activated.

Let's be honest:  A Vet Steamrunner is borderline ... just unfun.  Piercing shields with an already MASSIVE cobalt torpedo absolutely RUINS battleships and stations.  Wouldn't be so bad if the thing was a photon-torpedo gunboat with the special option of unleashing a hail of tricobalt torpedoes as a special :).

Be honest though, how often do you get said Steamrunner to Vet status? :D. I usually am MUCH more worried about Vet Akiras (and Vet Sang' and Vet Galaxy... yadada) - even a vet Steamrunner dies in very little time  ^-^ .

I seem to get them quite often, they seem to get the last hit in often.

Yeah the most frequent vets I get from Warp-ins are:  Excel I's, Steamrunner's (assuming I'm in control usually), Ambassador's, Galaxy's, Nebula's.

Because they generally get the last hit they really do end up vetting fast.  I think the Excel I's do as well because they have so much torpedo firepower at their disposal.

Steamies vet pretty quick actually.  I usually see it as each time you use tri-loader you get a rank (when attacking ships).  Rarely are steamrunners alone, so the Tri-loader almost ensures that you'll deal the last hit.
