I have always been a big fan of the Nebula Class ship. One thing I really like about it is the fact that it has an interchangeable utility pod. I would love to see the Nebula warp in without a pod, then having an option to select a pod specialized for sensors, weapons, troop carrying, point defense, etc. I know that the refit ship tactic has been assigned to Romulans, but since this is a special warp-in ship, could it perhaps be an exception?

And perhaps just a nit-pick, but the fixed position pulse phaser seems really out of place on a big, poorly maneuverable ship like the Nebula. IMO, it's pulse phaser should be omni-directional, or simply replaced with torpedoes.

That seems like a really neat idea, each pod could get different weapons or special ability.

I think that would be an excellent idea and I'd love to see it.

i'm currently working on a fo3 mod that has a simula feature you build a podless nebula then you get a choice of the science pod, sensor pod or extra nacelles. my feature slightly differes from the f0 teams as it uses a inbettween ship that needs to regather its special energy before it can b turned into the final ship and the inbettween ship cant move or shoot

Good idea (why would rfitting be Rom only? All races do it), but isn't the standard Nebula varient the one with the triangular pod? It should start out like that.

I love the idea, personally, for a long time the nebula was my favorite ship. There's only one problem I see with the whole warp-in thing. When you warp-in a ship using the distress call, the nearest available ship comes to help, right? So that means that the ship is already built...there are kind of issues there.

To address Tyler's question of why refitting only Rom: I figure it's to keep each race as different as possible from the next: aka, the same reason why only Feds have repair ships etc...

That's why Ray320 and I suggested that the Galaxy, Nebula, and Steamrunner be built at McKinley yard or have a population cap like the repair ship. Warp-In could be used for experimental ship classes only such as the Descent Class or Prometheus Class if it ever came to be.

I also favor the idea of customizable weapon pod so you can choose photon torpedoes if you wanted. I don't find full scan useful because the enemy already knows where you are, and knowing where they are doesn't do you any good if they have a hundred ships coming at you.

Additionally, I faced off against a Klingon Sang Class with a Nebula and was ousted by the Sang Class. It would be nice if the Nebula and Galaxy lived up to their reputations and were made a little more useful and have increased combat capability since the Feds have a reputation for continually upgrading and refitting their ships over the years.

Ship Refit's don't strike me as the racial-specific sort of ability. Assimilation & artillery turrets maybe, but refits?

You're right it's not an ability, but what I am getting at is people have been arguing that because the Galaxy and Nebula are older ships they are old and useless. But StarFleet doesn't get rid of their old ships, they keep refitting them through the years like the Constitution, Miranda, and Excelsior to keep up with the rest of the fleet and newer enemy ships. This should be reflected in their general stats and availability.

Your right, infact the feds do it the most.
Exelsior refit
Galaxy (post dominion) Refit, and all the rest.
Soverign refit (in Nemisis)
Nebulas (and all its varients)
Not to mention the numerous physical varients we have seen in the shows.

yeah i agree with constellation, many refits, i mean seriously, including what constelllation mentioned, there were like a bunch of miranda refit, and the soyuz was a refit of miranda, and nebula refits, and of course you could have the galaxy refit(agt) and the intrepid varient from endgame, theres many possibilitys, so maybye ship caps like the repair ships, but then a bunch of refits, and you can refit and uprgrade the refits, so maybye you have a galaxy class that you refit and upgrade like 5 times tilll it is very powerful, or you do that to a constellation or nebula

A refit system for the Federation? Now this is getting interesting. That system would define the principal characteristics and nature of the Federation. Starting with one ship and continually upgrading it through the years.

Good point about it warping in without a pod being silly. Perhaps it should start with the sensor pod as default and replace it once it enters a war zone.

Isn't the Triangular pod the standard one?
