Random idea: Instead of having only one explosion for the death of a ship, choose one from a set of many explosions.

Yes, a more dynamic system for ship deaths is on todo :)

Does this include the possibility of a warp core breach and moderate area damage?

Ahh... Holes in the burning hull, plasma leaks, warp nacelles breaking away off the ship...
Oh, my imagination

Losing ships would be a benefit then

Still nice though.

it would be kinda cool at first but then i think after awhile you wouldnt realize it unless you looked for it.

Warp core breach is an interesting idea hopefully it wouldnt backfire

There's a range of possibilities which can be interesting:

- Previously mentioned warp core breach
- Death Spawns a recoverable chassis (possible problem: lagg because of memory strain)
- Depending on the race, perhaps a small spacial anomaly.

And I'm pretty sure others will have more ideas.

A warp core breach doesn't disgusting between sides and it'd be a pretty expensive bomb so not sure if it'd be beneficial.

Making it so ships only have a one in twenty or so chance of leaving a chassis could help the memory, as could having them break up after a few minutes.

Im pretty sure warp core breach area damage would be unfair, since in flops losses can make the difference in a game. Currently none of the explosions do any damage which is unrealistic as it is, so why have a warp core breach on destruction that does?

Id prefer either

1. warp core breach is just a visually different explosion that happens a certain percent of the time
or
2. warp core breach has a low percentage chance (like 3%) and the explosion does area damage that disables engines only within a radius.

Why unfair?

At both sides destroyed vessels have a chance of a WC breach.
Both sides are at risk and damage decreases with distance.

Well it could be possible, that you could win an engagement but lose a vessel at the end that results in any remaining ships getting destroyed.

But both sides run that risk so it evens out.

while technically true over the long term, i think more randomness in the short term isn't a good thing.

ie if you lost 3 games and won 3 games because of these dice rolls, then i would feel slighted in the losing games and embarrassed at winning in the wins.

Yeah, I have been waiting on this kind of thing for a while.  I think they should have a replaceweapon on death so that you could have hero ships warp out instead of blowing up, and maybe have money given back when some ships die.  Maybe even complex break apart animations and wreckage that stays on the map for a while  :woot:

For modding purposes there is an explosion spawn weapon: RumbleExplode - The Hitchhiker's Guide to Fleet Operations

You can already have resources given back by using destroyedDilithiumCost type commands :).
