Why are you so against the Excalibur? I personally like the idea but i don't bother if it's not icorporated. I want to see the prometheus as aggressive conterpart to the descent.
Cylinder was a mining ship, but I don't care. It cooks cool. Much cooler than the pyramid IMO. I'd like to see is as a specialized supportive vessel for the optimize avatar.

A really big tarbase could form an extra objekt for the feds, which gets unlocked, when e.g. you allocated 100 vessels on the map. Oterwise it would unbalance the game. The base on the picture is something for an important sector, not for an aoutpost where we have war IMO.

Well the Galaxy class is available via warp-in, and the Starbase... well all of bases are supposed to be outposts kind of (though if you take a look at the Meet The Starbase thread, you'll see the RedManMark is modeling a buildable true Starbase).

What about my idea of having a second starbase per race (except Borg) that is able to be refitted with Alien tech? That would really boost everyone's Defensive stregth.
For example: Federation with Klingon allies... the Starbase can choose 3 mixtech modules to equip (out of so many). Basically almost like having your own Unity outpost (I know it is a ditto but I would be cool).

I havent thought about the details yet.
Is it possible to redesign the upgrade system?
At the moment we can increase sensor, shield and weaponpower for all units.
If we can assign an upgrade just to a class like cruiser it would give more flexibility.
For example:
5 upgrades possible
choose between shield,engine,weapon and sensor-
for each shipclass.
Perhaps,if its possible, you can upgrade each ship.

upgrademultiplier = 1.16
upgradesystem = "shield_generator"
targetshipclass = destroyer
targetunits = fed_saber
Something like that.

its not to strong (a Galaxy needs two). And it is the best way to fight against the borg assimilator and die federation warp in. Until you get better ships.
If you can't handle this as Fed or Borg, change your attacking priority.
It just work at short distance

The Collision ability definitely poses a problem: currently it seems to be having the effect of making games where the Dominion is involved into destroyer spamming fests. Let me explain: because the Bug can one hit kill most opponents cruisers (and 2 hit most battleships) it is cheaper to actually use collision than to tech up to any other Dominion ship. The fact that it can also be used to take out mining installations, Starbases and yards for very cheap means that the Bug becomes the ultimate spam weapon.

That it a cool Idea. If I'm reading this right you are saying thy could upgrade to different classes of ship? Or, would it effect all ships of that class. I'm not the best at reading FO sudo-code, but I'm learning. It is very different then the easy read of the vanilla code.

I mean the standard upgrade effects all unit.
It would be nice when you can upgrade a specific class, unittype or unit.
But I thing the hardcode has to be modified. Im not sure.

It would be nice, but this what you should have to do.
double gold on one ship.
instead of making it veteran, you send it back to base.
There it undergoes deconstruction and analization. (obviously this should cost a lot of resources)
after this all ships of that class will be built with that standard, but they cant ever get veteran statious.
after this the only way to get Veteran statious would be on the ships of that same class that were already built before the upgrade was standardized.

I really think that the Veteran should be kept, another good idea is an Admiral rank! For vessels that are Battleships and are already veterans can rank up another scale to become an Admiral's ship!

I agree with what you're saying to an extent. However, the bugs are not pumped out in such high numbers as to completely obliterate an opponent's fleets. We should note that in cases where we have feds, klings, roms, or borg the game follows a sequence where destroyer spam is possible mid-game only where the opponents let the dominion go unchecked.
Bug shields are weak and most bugs can be taken out by other ships like akiras and long ranged rhienns b4 they get close. Sure the bugs can ram and do damage, but that is exactly what the dominon is about.
At this point, to prevent excessive spams, the best solution is to include the K-cel white resource I posted (which is very much like the collective connections implementation - lucky coincidence... great minds think alike


IMO the Dominion atm are closer to canon than ever, and we need to reconsider the cruiser roles of S-24s etc as support ships as they were in canon (they imo are the pure dominion replacements for galors and keldons and hidekis), with the V-16 as the mainstay battleship and the Dreads as the nukes.
Even dominion stations now exemplify the dig in and fortify principle.
I love them atm. My second favorite after the Borg -

Are you talking about a flagship? I would prefer a personal choice of the flagship, instead of a hero unit.
But the number of flagships should be limited to 1, because you are only one commander with one single flagship.

That would be great if you could deem one ship you have the fleet admiral. It wouldn't have to have super ability's, only it would let you name your ship, and give it a Rally troops ability, or increase moral, or something that would give it a leading ability. Maybe all the ships would automatically form behind whatever ship is the admiral, and protect it.

How about an animated Menu like Star Trek: Legacy? That can boost the ratings? ::) And it would also make things look cooler!
