Ok, in a number of cases flops outright ignores trek, I propose we fix this.
Here is my rough list of ships that are not as they should be:
-1 excessive use of MICRO Photons among klinks. The only time I recall micro photons being mentioned was for shuttles/runabouts. Why would giant space guns of doom use them ?
-2 Nebula Class with sensor pod: Where's the photon ? It's specifically given a photon in the very first episode the Nebula was seen on screen, with a sensor pod in place. And before people cry 'oh mai god balance!!!1111' , all that needs to be done is lower the phaser output, the torpedo doesnt even need to have even a reasonable rate of fire, it's there for looks/canon.
-3 Sabre: In first contact, it's seen firing a BURST of photons, in flops it gets the quantum poopgun.... only after ranking a lot.... hard when some scouts do more damage. This ship is all but pointless, and has been so for a few versions now. The Monsoon is the 'raider' for feds. Take the Sabre, lower speed, increase weapon power a tad and add the photon to help do that, dont have it fire in bursts execpt at veteran level.
-4 Akira: It's seen in first contact firing SEVEN torpedos at once, three from the rollbar, four from the foward ventral surface of the saucer. In flops it's photon/phaser do the same damage. Give it a VERY weak phaser (intrepid level or lower), but multiple torps to burst fire, with quantums added to the mix as it ranks up. Just give it a higher% chance to miss against smaller targets that can evade (IE: Size based instea of silly range based).
-5 Armor doesnt affect shields: Ablatave armor provides a damage reduction from ships of the right ranges. (why the range of a weapon would affect the damage it does to bare hull I dunno). Solution: Change ablatave armor to ONLY reduce the HULL damage done, across the board, by enemy fire in addition to increasing the ships repair time.
-6 Marton BoPs. Give them their photons back, make an avatar unique thru actuall effort rather than randomly changing things.
-7 Not really ignoring trek but........ in flops klinks use the green photons. Howcome the K'vort uses red photons for it's special ?

Gameplay vs realism argument in FO gameplay wins everytime.

Thats lazy talk.
It's easy to balance around it by adjusting the balance of that ships weapons.

It's also easy to say, "Nah, I don't think so"

1) I'm on your side with the micro photons.
2) well, it's a bit boring if all the Fed ships had the same weaponry. I know it's not really canon, but gameplay wize it provides a difference to the torp nebula.
3) The sabre isn't a pointless ship at all. Long range, 360 degree firing, always hitting, and a useful special weapon. It's a super cheap tank. I wouldn't have a problem with a photon instead of quantum pulse at veteran, though. However, the devs have decided that only quantums fire volleys. I don't know why, but they like it that way.
4) Same like 3. Someone modded FO with photons being shot in volleys, too. Perhaps you should look for that in the modding section.
5) Balance problem: If your shields are down, the enemy boards you. 125 crew of a Vor'cha aren't much. Not even talking about the Defiant.
6) Actually we saw BoPs sometimes not firing photons, even though they could have done it.It's actually cosmetic, but I admit I play TaQ'roja mainly because her BoPs have torps
.
Vor'chas and KTingas in the show sometimes used pulse disruptors, sometimes beams, sometimes torps - balance-wize it's good that not all the ships are the same.
7) For me the shield breaking torp is a perfect hommage to ST6 - it is red, it fires through shields(although it didn't do that in the movie, at least not for Excel) and it can be fired while cloaked. It's more based on canon than on anything else. I only miss a sound for it.

Try doing it for yourself and you see "easy to balance" is the worst and most ignorant combination of words

I agree making a mod is much harder than just bitching about one on a forum. The FO team has done a great deal of work, and have a talent team as proven by the mod on introducing new code into the mod, so what if it doesn't measure up to canon, canon in my view is another term for no imagination or desire to do something new.

WE ... are Star Trek!
Unfortunately, WE are not the ones who are sitting down and develop Fleet Ops...

Let's not forget that ships in this game are built in minutes and not realistic months. You accept this for gameplay reasons. With the ability to construct entire bases from scratch, its not a far stretch to imagine that the ships would be slightly different. Why expend the cost for so many torpedo launchers on a ship thats primary role is a small, fast but weak interceptor (Sabre)?

The game is also set decades after canon Trek, where refits and role changes have no canon to get in their way. Such changes are hardly anything new.
Face it Tok'ra; you're fighting a losing battle here.

I wouldn't mind seeing Photon torpedo's on martok's BoP but the female klingon avatar (don't remember the name) should get something unique in return.

hmmm they both do unique ships for both klingon avatars (cant remember off top of my head)

i swear i posted in this thread earlier, must have forgotten to push post.
@cortez: the torp neb fires photons in volleys, not just quantum ships get that.
this is a game, not a simulator, people play it for fun. so yes, gameplay will always trump canon.

I think most people are ignoring one very critical issue here:
We have no idea what the units in Star Trek are like, compared to FO
. We don't know if ships are refitted extensively in Trek, we don't know their base armament (no, technical non-canon stuff isn't going to count), we don't even know anything about their relative power levels. If we did, the Galaxy would be pretty damn weak, being knocked about by most factions over and over and over.
What that means is that if we consider the Saber in FC for instance (the only Sabers we've seen firing I believe), we don't know if they could be considered veteran, or another rank - after all, the Saber in FO fires torpedoes when it gets its Crisis Suite.
Oh, and then of course - FO doesn't take place in prime Star Trek, Romulus is still around, the Romulans are still a force to be reckoned with, and Janeway is somewhere ... safe.
