im sorry but no 1 mentioned we were talking about human or ai which is y i said its pointless regarding ai as they have unlimited resources and fast build times your right i havnt played online in a very long time the last time i played was stock armada 2 2vs2 and getting my ass kicked by a borg fusion cube but i would say that against human and not ai tactis dont really matter against a good player using the borg as they will no doubt be prepared for whatever you try i would probably try a tactic myself of building a defensive force to stop them and a smaller strike force to take out their communication matrix to stop them building collective uplinks as borg build costs are alot higher if u manage to destroy it u should get enough of an advantage to build up a sizeable force to attack him and cripple him b4 the big guns arrive also try playing like a romulan dont be the first to attack try luring ur opponent into a trap then de cloak a small fleet and hit him with everything you have then cloak and run if you have to

2 other things i can think of that will prove usefull to the rommies if the feds  are involved try and capture a construction ship as the mixed tech yard gives u the talon repair re fit or capture a newton or 2 to repair damaged fleets but hey dont listen to me as i dont play online lol i spend most of my time playing nirvana 2 against 7 meciless ai opponents just for the sake of watching a never ending stream of huge battles unfold while i build up a large fleet of double gold only ships but hey maybe sometime soon ill come play against u guys instead

Generally in a fight against a Borg player it's all about stopping that first sphere/assimilator.  If you can stop it, you can try to destroy some of their key stations, but at that point they'll probably have another defending their base.  And if you send some at their base before destroying it, you may not be able to destroy it.  But if you do destroy it without major losses you gain momentum and generally have the upper hand.

As for talon refits, they're useful, but they're too weak and expensive to get initially to help stop that sphere/assimilator.  Capturing a newton could work, if a Fed player is careless enough to allow you to do it.

Jules I have to ask you to TRY and use periods.  I have a really hard time reading your posts.

Borg AI and Borg online are completely different.  Might as well not even be the same game.  Mal started this to make a suggestion intended to widen the strategic possibilities when playing against Borg.  It's not fun when you know there is only 1 real way you can win.

how about this as an idea we all know that tactical armour gives a 10% damage reduction against beam weapons so how about either of these

1 as well as the 2 weapon upgrades theres a 3rd 1 that allows for modulating weapons that give bonuses against the borg.

2 veteran vessels gain modulating shields and weapons with gives both offensive and defensive bonuses against borg

None of that helps stop the early sphere or assimilator.  What's so bad about making pulses do variable damage to Borg?

how about being able to upgrade ships to be anti borg no change vs other races but higher defence and offence vs borg the downside being you would sacrifice that ships special until veteran rank?

Thats just silly. imagine a 1vs1 as borg. your enemy would simply throw the "anti-borg" ships against you, and you would have no chance.

simple like veteran ships there would be a limit to how many u could have or even have them as warp in support

Lol.  Do you actually have a problem with Mal's idea?  His idea is to have Pulse Weapons actually be useful against the Borg.  This will let you actually USE ships that have them instead of avoiding them like the plague.

Do you have an issue with that?

I'd agree with Pulse weapons being good against the Borg... The Defiant is Pulse armed and it is meant to be anti-Borg...

As long as the Pulse Turret doesn't start killing Borg better than the Quantum Turret... Even as an anti-Borg weapon, Pulses doing more damage than Quantums is wrong...

I don't think the issue is that pulse's should do MORE damage against the Borg necessarily.  I think it's mostly about not having pulse's do only 60% damage against 90% of the Borg vessels.  Almost all Borg ships that are used to fight are Battleships and Large size.  Thus pulse's are nearly useless against them.  That's why torpedoes do so much - because they never miss :)

im not against the idea in fact i think pulse weapons should do the same damage against any target only range should make a difference as pulse weapons lose energy as they travel

Who mentioned doing more damage? I just talked about them neing good against them, no mention about doing more damage to them than to others.
