Hello,

Typical newbie I am, not bothering to read if anyone has suggested these before ... I'm full of ideas, or full of something anyway  ... just thought I'd throw some thoughts to the wind

Supposedly, in addition to being known for its heavy shields, the Federation is known for faster ships, but aside from the warp-in Excelsior, this doesn't really show through.  I propose a new shipyard, maybe call it the Daystrom Shipyard or Yeager Shipyard, that specializes in ships optimized for speed and defense that can serve as "picket interceptors" great at harassing enemy raiders attempting to disrupt the Federation economy.
* The Intrepid could move here (that was one of the features that made Voyager the ship best suited to hunting down the Maquis through the Badlands when she launched), make it a bit faster at the expense of its offense.
* Zeich's Sabre II design could go here as a fast light ship armed with a combination of beam-phasers and pulse phasers to make it a great counter to smaller raiders like the B'rel
* A "Constellation II" new version of the retired quad-nacelle Constellation-class ( Constellation Class ) as a light/fast cruiser
* A "Cheyenne II" ( Cheyenne Class ) as a light/fast battleship.  The shipyard could also have various upgrades that might apply to all the ships in the center, such as "Evasive Maneuvers" that makes the ships twice as hard to hit (maybe even making beam weapons occasionally miss) at the expense of its own weapon accuracy.

Another Federation suggestion would be a new category of "Warp-In" ships:  Combat support.
* O'Berth class could arrive from here as a scout with very powerful sensors
* Olympic class as a heavy combat support ship with weak weapons but very tough shields that can conduct field repairs like a Newton, but can also clear the Klingon engine slow-down (maybe as a special ability)
* Mandril II as a heavy miner with light armarments (maybe 10) and larger ore capacities

The tough part would be how these ships could achieve command rank to clear the slots they take ... one possibly way of slightly alleviating this is to DOUBLE the warp-in slots AND the slots taken by the existing ships (so the normal ships take 2 instead of 1, and the Descent takes 8 instead of 4) and these support ships could then take 1 so they'll be half the "warp-in" cost of a normal ship.  Since all are armed, they /could/ achieve command rank though, of course, that would be challenging since there isn't much they could seriously challenge.

Hmm, well, to give a little bit of info, the next released patch will feature a wide range of speed changes. For instance, the Intrepid will gain a significant speed boost, as will the Monsoon (the latter bumped up to 140!)

You can probably expect more changes in patch 9, which--baring unforeseen problems--will be the Romulan and Federation redo patch as far as I understand it :)

For the rest of your ideas, I have no particular view one way or the other, as I am fairly confidant that the Devs will pick a nice direction for the Fed rebalancing :) . I must say, that you are indeed not the first person to recommend changes for the Federation--they are after all the most popular faction :)

Damn those FedRats and their OP ships... And they still want MOAR!

Well, I have bad news for you, little fedrat:

The Borg will get a new ship, the Cone. Set in between the Diamond and the Cube, it will include a special effect "Queen Direct Command" that will double its offensive power and quadruple the defensive value for sixty seconds.

The Dominion will get also a new ship, the V-75 Bullet. It will have an improved version of the Bug ram. The ship will run through the enemy ship, blowing it up, but the Bullet will survive with a loss of 51% of its maximum crew. The ship is not armed, as it is a weapon in itself, but it has very strong armor and enough shields to get to its intended target. Oh, it blows up stations in one blow, too.

The Klingon will get a boarding ship, the Pta', equipped with 1500 Klingon Marines and a special combat teleporter that drops the Marines in groups of 100. This teleporter can be used with the ship cloaked and ignores the target shields.

And, last but not least, the Romulans will get a station improvement that will allow to cloak all stations, making them indetectable even for the tachyon detection grid. The miners will also be automatically cloaked with no special energy consumption. There were talks about moving the Talon Repair Refit from the Mixed Tech shipyard, allowing the repair refit to be researched at the starbase, but it was thought that it might imbalance gameplay and was dropped.

The Feds? They will get NERFED!

The purpose of my post was not to mock Chibiabos, but to illustrate the fact that anything that gets added to one faction will, inevitably, have to be balanced by similar additions to all factions.

As it is now, the Federation is the most powerful faction available to play. If we divide a game in its usual three stages, early game, mid game and end game, the Federation is first or second in all three.

That means that what FO needs now for new content is one of those: a new faction; an improvement in all factions but the Federation or a nerfing of the Federation.

That doesn't mean you cannot propose new ideas for the Federation, but it may take quite a while to be implemented if the devs think it's worthy. And it may come to the price of taking something from what the Federation currently has or adding something that might make another faction stronger than the Federation.

After all, if the devs take into account the fact that human players tend to prefer playing as "the good guys", they might choose to reinforce considerably all other factions to make Fed playing more challenging.

Lucky for you FedRats that they also have a soft spot for the Federation. :)

Excerpt from battle chatter from a Beta Multiplayer FO game:

Code: Select all
'Beware! The Borg player just built a Cone!'
'Vanilla?'
'Strawberry'
'We are doomed...'
'Ho-Ho-Ho... Resistance is futile'

That was particularly unnecessary. Especially throwing names like "Fedrats" around while claiming not to be mocking anyone... Makes you just sound foolish :whistling:

Chibiabos, those are good ideas, however additions or changes of the magnitude you suggest are unlikely to happen anything but slowly. For instance, races are soon to recieve an "interceptor" class which, although not unique to the Federation, will help with certain balancing aspects.

I personally would like to see a 25th Century StarEmprie class...

But hey, whatever... as long as the other factions get their bonus...

"We are the borg... Lower you shields and surrender your avatar bonuses..." - Borg
"WT? You won't get that over my dead body!" - Mayson
"Now we shall use our new weapon... the Ice Cream cone!" - Borg
"Face my wrath with fried dough!" - Mayson
"Italian Sausage!" - Borg
"Jumbo Shrimp Scampi!" - Mayson
"Bacon, Ham, Fried Pork, and Sauteed Onion Omlete!" - Borg
"STOP! You're both making me hungry!" - First Officer
"Cannot adapt against hunger! Selfdestruct necessary!" - Borg
*Cube blows up

Where do you get the Star Empire Class from? The only 'Star Empire' I can find is the Federation Class USS Star Empire from the 'Dreadnought' Novel...

So it's a fan ship? Looks like a misslabeled Lego Federation Class. Also looks like someone drew a Federation, made it boxy and tried to pass it off as their own using the name of a Federation Class as it's Class name.

Where did it come from?

.... I think it could be a fed class...... i dunno

To me looks like a Upgraded Dreadnaught refit from just after the Tos series using the new connie Nacelles.  or It could be a older Fed dreadnaught class   variant refit.I think I may have data on the   bottom class of ship that is used in the picture. as soon As I locate it I'll try to post it . fotr any one who cares  to look at  the validity of the design.Update lookedforthe  files for the  stopsigned dreadnaught  It must be a "Fan  ship" cobbled to gether.

The bottom one is a Federation Class, the same design as the ship (USS Star Empire) from the 'Dreadnought' novel.

Actually, the term "fed-rats" is a despective term from the BattleTech universe. It's used by the enemies of the Federation of Suns. They, in turn, have similar names for the other powers in the Inner sphere, like the always popular "snake" in reference to an inhabitant of the Draconis Combine, for example.

It's obvious that if I take a antagonistic posture against the Federation, I'm going to use some despective term to call its players. But it was in no way intended as a personal attack, and I take it was seen this way by the rest.

And, well, the intention of the post was to sound somewhat foolish, as if it was someone taking too seriously this game.

The Borg Cone? Puhlease...

And no self-respecting Klingon would want to serve in a Pta' class ship. They would look like... well, pta'.
