Almost all ships with the basic sauser/stardrive hull design can separate. Every ship after the Consitution Refit class with the basic sauser/stardive hull design could separate. In one of the TOS movies, i don't remember which one exactly, there was an alternate ending in which the sauser of the Enterprise A detacts. The only thing special about the Galaxy class was that when it separates it could also reintergate. No other ship could do that. The Galaxy was also the first ship to beable to do while in warp. Even if we wanted to give every sauser/stardrive ship the sauser separation we couldn't. You can only have one ship in the whole game separate. It's because of some stuff in the source code which we can't access. The whole idea of separation was that if the ship was going to have a core breach they could save most of the ship and then rebuild the rest. But since it would really serve a purpose in A2 it was taken out of Fleet Ops.

How do I know all this you ask? I have no life

I have several art books and DITL. It was all explained in that. I could try to find it and scan it in if you like?

Art books? Of what, concept designs? And where in DITL, could you show me? Don't forget DITL is notorious for being a little off...

Most of them are art books of concepts. Some of them are books of stuff that was never aired. Movied enddings and such. If i remember correctly there was a picture of the Ent-A detacting it's sauser. It's true that DITL has been wrong on some things. Looking at it right now, I can't seem to find anything on sauser separation. But I'm sure it's in the concept books.

I think i just started the next intergalactic war, guys it's a freakin saucer section! I tried backing up an earlier claim, TMP tried to dispute that claim, someone has to be right, someone has to be wrong, the amount of evidence goes in TMP's favour, that's all there is to say. You can take it to the next forum along and i think you'll find people will have the same disagreements Till another TMP proves them wrong. :)

I'll see you in the next discussion TMP  (Needs horns and a demonic laugh)

Your reading me like a book ^_^ I just like things to look right in game, nothing against you just striving to make this mod the best it can be. I respect other peoples rights to their opinions and try to exercise that as much as I can. Your right, it was fun :)

Oh i agree completely, even if i had won, like you i still wouldn't want another saucer sep ship in the game, it would take away the novelty from Galaxy and remove the realism, if we had actually seen another ship do it then it might have been different but it never happened so it shouldn't happen in the game...

But on the subject of seeing things in movies/series, what happens when a ship is to near another ship that blows up, it get's damaged right? now i know you couldn't have that in the game cause every ship would blow up each other in a large fleet war but what about the most powerful ship per side, a ship that powerful would cause damage if it exploded, kinda like the self destruct in A2. Or instead of damage just causing engines or weapons to go offline like if a ship is only caught in the outer edge of the Jach'eng shockwave, not enough to destroy the ship. just cripple it, maybe do the same with a specific structure like each races starbase, what ya think TMP?

Not to keep this going or anything but I’m sure I’ve read in several places about other ships being able to separate, such as voyager thou it was never done (just like its little captains yot on the underside of the saucer which was never used...)

Well it might be better for any ship that blows up to damage ships around it, but only shield wise and only a little.

I have nothing against the Galaxy in game to be able to separate, but I would like it to be a little more powerful then one not separated ;)

Oh and could you maybe make a new topic with this on it?

P.S. Not true uber, you must have been looking at a 10 year old hoping it was true :)
