k ima keep this simple, i know my previous suggestion for this was radical and would be hard to do, however this is simple, ships die to much

i know thats kinda the point, but i feel after a battle there should be some ships desroyed, and others disabled, and then both teams can come back with repair ships or during battle and tractor them out of there or repair them, to make it more realistic, sure ships will be destroyed, but some can be repaired, and some can be refitted after battle

Hmmm...thats kid of what it used to be like when the crews would ie before the ship did....and if I had the choice I would stay with how it is now.....the old crew diing was kind of silly.

well yeah, but this is different, basically, im saying, itd be nice not to get your whole fleet decimated, but to have a certain chance, that your ship will just be disabled until you fix it

for instance if your in a game thats neck and neck and you two go into battle and all of your ships are destroyed, you dont have any left, but with this, you are still able to salvage it,

and maybye thats a better idea, maybye you cant repair any or all of them, but you can trade them to ferengi or somthing to get some money out of them

idk, maybye even this is to advanced for the team, but itd be really cool

Don't get me wrong...I like the idea......just has to implemented properly.....like if a ship is hurt bad enough the AI targeting stops and finds a more threatening target to fire at.....I don't know if that is possible...but would be cool.

I like this idea, it seems more in line with canon to me.  Not every ship is always destroyed from a catastrophic-warp-core-breach-giant-explosion with nothing left over, a lot of the time there's wreckage left (Wolf 359?).  Instead of allowing salvaged ships to be fully repaired, why not make any ship that's below a certain amount of health turn into a damaged version of itself, with the max possible health and values lowered (For example, an Akira is in a fight, gets below say 1/4 health, and turns into a damaged Akira.  It keeps taking damage and gets disabled, so it justs drifts as a wreckage, until a player comes back and salvages it; however, it's still a damaged Akira and not a full Akira).  This would be like the Enterprise after the battle of Bassen Rift, which had to limp home but could still function, just not at full capacity until after a yard refit.

This could be utilized to make more of a difference between factions, as well; maybe because of the way the Federation works, they'll go out and recover disabled ships and refit them to fully operational status, whereas the Dominion would discard them because they can mass produce more.  Then the Romulans, because they have very few natural resources available, might tow them back and deconstruct them for the plain resources, and so on for all the factions.

Salvaging ships also opens up new ways to capture enemy ships, so perhaps that could be tied in to mixed tech somehow?

Yeah...it always made sense that there would be survivors....just like during the dominion war they were always towing ships back from the front and repairing them for the next engagment...

I like the idea, but don't like it at the same time. Why shouldn't the enemy be able to pulverize all of your ships if he/she feels like it.
At the same time, though, it'd be nice to see ships become "totalled" in a sense. If a ship got to the point where it wasn't worth it or something like that...I kinda like it.

yeah, i feel the same way, i guess it might just have to go on a rules of war thing

in one way i would like you to be able to just massaacre, but also, itd be nice to have somthing left

I too would enjoy this idea (and it in fact has been brought up before) ... perhaps certain ships after taking certain types of damage would become neutral derelicts with zero life support, zero engines, zero yadadad.... until towed back or repaired on scene with special crews (each race would utilize the derelicts differently as previously mentioned by Fracsid)

While this idea does make sense, i guess it is no really for an RTS. I mean, think of it, would you like to micro whole fleets of repair and salvage ships to get some disabled saber ? What keeps your enemy from killing them too, which means you have to send even more ships in. Ship Junkyard anyone ?

But maybe this idea could be used in a simpler way, maybe as a special weapon, like playing dead or so, but on the other hand, your enemy would get suspicious if your fleet suddenly turns into a collection of "harmless" junk.

Still, i guess thats nor for this game, though it does make sense from a realistic point of view.

AHAH!, i belive i may have a soulution, what if the ones that were disabled were tractored off by ferengi, and then you could buy them at a salvage yard for very cheap,

Interesting hmm however to be fair it would be better if anyone (except borg) could buy said ship from the salvage yard. Also Ferengi and cheap do not belong in the same sentence, you will never get a 'deal' by bargaining with them. I believe that it should be cheaper than building a new ship but say it should cost 70% of the cost of the ship.

Ah, yes cus the Borg would simply assimilate the yard and get all the ships for free!

yeah that could work,

for the ships to be chrap, they would have to be worth less to the ferengi, so you should have to put your own crew in board, and you should have to tow it back to base and repare it there.  It would also be cool if it only costed alot of suplys.  Reasons being the ferengi Don't build alot of ships, so tritianum and dilithiub wouldn't be worth much to them.
