I like this idea, but I kind of prefer the detector to be vulnerable as borg are soooo powerful early game as it is anyway.
Lol you don't want to start a discussion on what is realistic and what is gameplay. I mean would a federation scout really attack an enemy minning station? or go right towards the enemy base without any provocation?

I should have said who would do it successfully, or something.

What about giving the detector a passive scrambling field which prevents it being boarded unless the detector fires weapons or uses special weapons which causes it to deactivate for a short time.

It would have t be more broad than that, such as deactivating when fired upon, because otherwise the detector could go to green alert and never be captured.

Well, could give it a medium size range circle when you mouse-over in which anything outside of that range circle can't board it and anything inside can therefore the probe's OK aslong as it's micro'd properly not to get too close to stations/ships. How's that idea?

Would giving it a standard shield, but setting the shieldprotection to 0 block transporters? All Weapons would go through by default and the thing should be invisible, so the shields won't effect balance or looks at all.
It could be a passive called Electromagnetic field, like the same anti-transporter tech they used in canon.

What about this:
The vessel is equided with a navigation deflector that does not effect weapon fire at all, but it blocks every transporter activity untill the sensor-system has been disabled by weaponfire.

its bloody hard to disable borg subsystems.
that would make it too hard to beam to detectors.

That's why I thought of this.
Borgships are very complex vessels and they are surely not constructed to be used by a normal crew at all.
There much more drones on it that is has room for a normal crew. 80 Klingons in a detector? - That remembers me to a can of beens.

Maybe detectors should be treated like a Ferengi Marauder in Armada II - If it is captured it destroy its self.

i like it so that detectors can be captured, just not by the first mining station it runs accross.

Certain others have mentioned small ships not having room for as many redundancies as the larger ones, so a weapon that disables the required system should work better against a tiny Detector. That would allow it to work.
Did they ever reveal what generated the Electromagnetic field? If not then the deflector would be a good fit in the technobabble.

In TNG the "Beam-Shield" was mentioned - so they needed a shuttle to fly behind it and beam than into the cube trying to rescue Picard...
Anyway - I would prefer the deflector, too. (BTW - the Idea is taken from Star Trek Voyager)

The Electromagnetic field was the 'beam-shield' that kept them out.

I'm sorry - my fault
So what we are talking about?

i still think Mal's original idea of 1 hp of shield is pretty cool. So simple yet very effective.
