Hey Greg.  There's a "modify button" right next to reply :D.

That way you don't have to post 3 times in a row if you suddenly remember something.

Okay......................... Back to the main topic. I think deepspace vessels would be a good idea, though they'd have to be built to take punishment.

I have not confirmed this, but I'm pretty confident that the only items which will grant major speed boosts will be Transwarp (Borg), Subspace Travel (Ciadan), and Hyper Impulse Drive (Federation).

i dot like it if every  race would get it, because every race already has a way of implementing a fast travel option:

feds have hyper impulse and warpin
Borg have transwarp
Klingons have some really fast ships (brel and kvort and stuff like that)
romulans may not be thisfast, but because of their stealth they can simply move their ships behind enemy lines while he isnt watching

and it doesnt fit dominion playstyle imho  :sweatdrop:

Dave Denton wrote:No stretching effects though, just keep it exactly as the Federation Warp is looking now (as fast moving units in a state of warp travel), as the strecthing effect has no real basis.

Actually it has a basis, because the warp drive works in the way thet the space in front of the ship gets compressed , and behind the ships it gets stretched to normal legth again.
an example: we have a 150m long ship. it uses warp and the space in front of it gets shortened by 50% (so 300m long becomes 150 m long) now the moves into this compressed space, but it is still 150 m long, but now in compressed space. while the ship moves further, the space gets stretched to normal length again, so from 150m to 300m.
the light of the ship  also gets stretched out, because if the ship was at both ends of the compressed space, the light rays were there to, and they stay in their relative place after stretching, so actually the ship LOOKS like it would be 300m long, in other words as if it would be stretched to double length.

i hope that is the right explanation and i excuse for this wall of text^^

That sounds like you are thinking a deep space range would feature the possibility of building lots of those warp-using ships. Read page one of this topic. Strict limited to the one or two vessels each race would get, the Warp-use is also intended to be a special ability which drains energy. Not like in stock A2.

the whole post was directed at daves response to this subject, and not to the original post^^

EDIT: after reading the first psot again, i would still say that it simply wouldn't fit if every race gets the same "turbo-mode" warp-like thingie because imo every race alreay has an interesting way to move over big distances.

Uh, that's no excuse dna, so what if they have alternatives? ... Anyway I had my post removed due to lack of understanding.

i have nothing against the idea as it is, but the opening post heavily implies that every race should get a ship that is able to do this, and that is what i dont like about th idea. in my opinion a great part of the fun in flops is that the races are fairly different and that you have to think of alternative tactics because you simply dont have some kind of ship with some races.(well, it was this way in 3.07, but with the new passives and speeds it all changed because now every race has a really fast ship, a slow long range ship, etc.) so in shot, i like the idea of this special ability, but it should be limited to one ship-class of one race.
