Since we will have ships we can hire I was thinking that maybe we could buy a special weapon, research it and give it to a class of ship. So even if you are playing as the federation, maybe you could buy a phase cloak from a neutral station and give it to a class of ship. What do you think?

I don't really like this. Number 1, it would be very difficult. Number 2, having a Fed. Ship equipped with Phase Cloak makes no sence. Or a Dominion ship with Phase cloak, which doesn't make sence either.

The enterprise and the pegasus had phase cloak at onbe point.

That defied the Treaty of Algeron. The crew of Pegasus mutinied because of it. The Phase Cloak was promptly destroyed. It was an unauthorized use of a cloaking device.

I don't think it would be as hard as it sounds. In the original A2 game the borg came with a special weapon which could take other ship's special weapon. That weapon was then added to the borg's research station. I think it could be adapted. I was just using the phase cloak as an example. The ferengi could be the sellers and they sell all sorts of weapons from cloaking devices to quantum torpedos.

I still don't like it. It would make the game completely unrealistic. Cloaking Sovereigns? Warbirds with Quantum Torps? BOPs with Plasma Torps?

Maybe sertain weapons wouldn't be avaible for sertain races. So for the federation they couldn't buy cloaking devices because of the Treaty of Algeron. Then Romulans couldn't buy quantum torpedos because they wouldn't work with their launchers.

Still doesn't sound right.

That could be very big punch to the balancing system of Fleet Ops. But on the other hand it's an interesting idea. It should be "Refit Equipment" tht you can buy at some kind of trading stations. You could buy them, then you should research it (so that you can replicate more), and then each ship can be refited like Rhein Class and phaser/torpedo refit. It should cost a lot of resaurces for refiting. For example for refiting the Sovereign Class you should pay for 1000 Dil. and 800 Trit. and for that you can build three or more avarage power ships. So you'll think twise about it.

I like the idea, but instead of having romulans and federation technology interchangable, maybe just give thats races technology refitable on ships that dont have it. For example, the Excelsior refitted class fires Quantum torpedos but maybe you could refit it to use special energy and fire closer range Photons when they come in range. Maybe be able to refit alot of clases with more Phasers. With the romulans extra disruptors or plasma torpedoo, each time one of these weapons fire, it takes 5-10% of the special energy. One problem with this, other special weapons would'nt get much special energy.

I don't think this buying special weapons would workout ... it would be to .... Wacky.

Well mine can work just as a refit that can be bought at a science station or from the ship itself and dosent have to be a special weapon.

How about Credit-Cost refittable ships. For 3CR, you can "Uprate" A Sovereign with More powerful Phasers, Short-Range Rapidfire Photons, and more shield and Hull HPs. For 2CR: Refit an Akira with a 3-Target Torp Launcher. For 1CR: Increase range of Monsoon Phasers to Long. How about this?

I think that could work out.
