Bringing Planets Back?

Any space game without planets seems a bit weird. Alot of the Star Trek themes and situations involve planets. Planets start wars :shifty: It seems that in the mod we are fighting for rocky, dusty scraplands concealed within the weird effects of nutara nebulas and stuff. I admit, Some maps had too many planets on them because perhaps every player shouldnt have a planet or two. Some maps should have maybe only one planet and about a max of 4 or 5, though very rare. They should also have certain advantages. For one, colonization. They certainly should be worth credits because you will need them to defend it. You could also tie them into that supply line thing that was being talked about. As a matter of fact, they should be a big part of that. Different planets should have different advantages. Maybe you can only mine small rocky planets with no atmosphere but the large gravity well and atmospheric turbulance should make mining larger planets impossible. Perhaps even having a colonized planet should allow you to construct special facilities that need the atmosphere and power sources that only a planet can provide? Or maybe having a planet should provide a combat bonus to ships, a morale boost perhaps. I saw those beautiful planets you guys made and I'd hate to see them goto waste as a decoration, especially when they have such potential. :) It would be nice to see some planets with rings too. Im sure they will look beautiful in the game.

There are planets in Fleet Ops but not colonizable. I wouldn't mind having them back if they had some large phaser arrays or torpedo tubes attached. Otherwise I don't see much use for them except for resources.

Why arent the planets colonizable? Im sure you can find some other use for them other than resources

well it would be pretty cool to do so... like upgrades for the stations or ships.. so for the planets.. like... an upgrade called science station, so u could develop other special weapons or improve already existant technology... upgradin to planetary defences... well... i could imagine a lot of things.. so that the staff would be busy for the next years, just for improvin their mod :D .oO( if i would just get the skillz to mod i would really like to help them ^_^ )

I would have them just for guns, like the Cardassian defenses during the Chin'toka invasion during DS9. Of course resources and crew would come with them. It would make more sense having a colony ship that beamed things down instead of actually landing. I wouldn't mind having planets back with a few or all of these things :)

The planets in fleet ops are pretty :omg: (good job fo team) and it would be nice if you could at least get resources from them, but i want colonization too, and planetary defenses ^_^

the fleetops team is using the old armada 1 planet system i belive where if you have a starbase (or what ever it is for your race) you can have it above a planet and you get crew quicker, how ever i belive you should be able to colanise planets and have planteyr defences, i al so think it woul be a good idea if you could mine planets, all planets provide somthing or others wheather its metal, or tri

Well its really a choice, either the cool-looking planets from FO, or the resource thing. For some reason MadDoc hardcoded a lot of stuff about planets, for example you can't change the .sod etc.

strange, what kind of planets can we look foward to in fo3? can we have nameable planets and planets which can be assigned to people, also will there be suns in fo3 i am getting fed up of using loads of red nebulars to make a fake sun (it works really well though!)

Planets would add a more strategic play setting. And bonuses would make them a prescious comodity indeed. If you're on a 4 player map and only 2 planets. The players who control the planets should have some advantage over the ones who don't. Maybe colonizing planets can automatically mine for you? Like you colonize and you start getting a trickle of Dil, Metal and so forth. And it would make supplies better. Building an orbiting trade stations could be another way to extent or make supplies more accessable? Sheilding is ok. Defense would be simple. Upgrade the sheild and build some turrets! Maybe a small Credit increase for holding a planet for XX amout of time? Just some thoughts. But I think on some Maps Planets would make a great addition.

dont quote me but i think optec and Doca will bring planets back in if theres something special that can be done with them also wit trading
