One thing that can be frustrating against the borg is that you dont get many rankups.

each borg ship that dies will only give xp to 1 ship that was in battle.

i suggest making it so that when a borg ship dies, the ship that got the last shot will get most of the xp (since they feel the thrill of the kill), and a fixed number (eg 3 maybe 5) of other ships will get the rest split between them. so the same amount of xp is given, just not all to one ship that wont use more than is necessary to rankup (i think)

it also fits with the fact that a battle with the borg is a lesson for all the ships's crews nearby.

would help klingons out vs borg, since they need these rankups for supply.

I support it too, though the number of extra ships should also vary by target.

I would love to see that! I wonder, if the engine allows that. Another idea would also be to get multiple rankups immediately. A B'rel killing a cube should get something more from it than from killing a sabre ;).

nah, why would the crew learn from getting the final shot on a cube when loads of other ships helped? it wouldnt teach the ship that much.

Why change just the Borg? How about changing the entire xp system to be damage based instead of kill based?

Balance would be harder. The Borg are the only ones where you stand to lose more than gain, rank-wise.

and doing damage doesnt make you gain experience. winning does, but simply doing damage doesnt.

in reality it would be more random, since the people all learn at different rates. but gameplay demands a simpler system.

While i absolutely agree that the system of rankups vs Borg could use a change, I am not in favor of multiple rankups (nor do I think it's possible :D), however I think that something equally beneficial would do them some good.

  Think about it this way:  if they go scubes/probes, their overall strength is more spread out like the normal races , but enemies will also rank up more often.  If they go to a sphere or higher they may only give one rank, but a HUGE chunk of their fleet is lost ( not to mention that it allows them less map control to have 1 giant vessel as opposed to multiple smaller ones). 

  The only time i take issue really is with Klingons, who truly Rely on kills for their supply.  A Brel killin a cube gives 8 or so supply while a veggie gives enormously more.  That's hard to adjust and live with.

I don't thing multiple rank-ups will ever be added, I'm sure the devs disagree with a ship ranking up twice from a single kill. At least, that's the impression they gave any other time it was suggested.

Against any complaints about "not giving multiple ships exp or even a rankup" I think this idea makes sense. In most cases you need more than one vessel against Borg (unless you're fighting a scoutcube with a Chargh while combat-tractor is active and so on), because a single ship usually can't do much against a Borg-vessel. However I think the exp should completely be divided and not 'killer gets 50%, ship2 gets 25% and ship3 gets 25%'...
