Assimilating ships provides collective connections (kinda similar to Klingon rank up = supply).

Small ship = 1 CC
Medium ship = 3 CCs
Large ship = 5 CCs

Perhaps when a ship is assimilated, it has the option to get the CCs or upgrade (per one of my previous ideas)

Hmm.... I believe a more elaborate system may be necessary.

Base Tree:
Scout = 0
Destroyers & Light Cruisers = 2
Cruisers, Artillery Vessels, Heavy Cruisers = 3
Support Ships and Fighter Carriers = 4
Battleships 5

Size bonuses:
Small = -1
Medium = +/- 0
Large = +1
Extra Large = +2

Other Bonuses:
Mix Tech Variant = +1
Ships with avatar bonuses adding 6 or more points in total stats = +1

Balance is iffy, and the details are debatable. But it is a start in the right direction. I think...

i like the idea of a reward like this.

but how would it work? CCs are granted by integrating into the collective and linking up with the hive mind etc.

how does assimilating a ship do that?

The 'upgrade/refit' to the assimilated ship provides this. The upgrade/refit would read something like "Integrate into collective" - "+X Collective Connections, -X Offense, -X Defense. Integrate this ship into the collective to allow the hive mind to exert greater control in this sector of space. The focus on providing logistics reduces combat effectiveness of this ship."

What about if the holding beam or auto-assimilator gave you collective connections?  For every 10 or 20 crew members assimilated, that would give you 1 connection.  It would be easier to implement, but wouldn't be seen until late-game.

Keep your assimilators long enough, they'll pay for themselves.

I also like this idea, gives more of a reason to bother assimilating rather than just destroy.

Altho anything other than a destroyer to a small cruiser/support ship eg. something with low crew and your unlikely to ever assimilate anything else.

I like this idea.

Prehaps have it be like this

Ships: You capture a ship, a crew tends to come with it, so you get the CC bonus depending on the crew capacity of the vessel. Collective connections are simply the connections between drones and the rest of the collective, so that would make sense.

Crrew: Auto assim (prehaps other ships if the option is given, such as letting ships use the assim beam instead of the holding beam) beam use generates collective connections per every X ammount of crew assimd. Prehaps add a borg yard or something (other than mixed tech yards) to break ships appart for resources. As for the auto assim beam, for example, allow any ship that can use the holding beam to use that or the assim beam, but not both at once (IE: not both on the same ships)

Or better yet!  :woot: :woot: :woot: :woot: have each crew-member assimilated increase the offensive or defensive value of the ship by 1!  :woot:  :D I really think I've hit something here!

the only problem i feel with this is  idea  It needs a max cap on the  offensive boost given to a ship. If not  a opponents Assimulators may  get  REALLY  OP  like a  Assimulator with a Offense Score over 2000. :borg:

um, guys if the borg can gain CCs by using the auto assimilation their will be so many spheres out in a game :( How about instead of the auto assimilation its just the normal holding beam because everyone gets assimilators. And the borg do have a mix tech yard to decommission ships just take over a construction ship

Building a million spheres, that's ballzy! xD

akshully most opti strats skip past assims to go spheres. the defence is just too low for my tastes. for opti the assim is a very situational ship. while for assimilate avatar its far more sturdy.

Here's an idea.  Replace the Holding Beam module with the Assimilation module and delete the assimilator all together.  With the first assimilation module, you get a holding beam.  The holding beam will not transport any drones aboard.  With the second assimilation module, you get the crew assimilator beam, which drains crew from the ship at a specific rate.  The third assimilation module increases the efficiency of the crew assimilator.  Using the holding beam, you can prevent a ship from escaping, then once you have the ship, use the crew assimilator to start assimilating that ship.  Once all of the crew is gone, transport aboard the ship and disengage the holding beam.  The crew assimilator will give you a collective connection for every few crew members assimilated.
