I think this would make feds even more powerful then they already are...

Why don't we make it for the romulans as they already have weak, cheap, miners and it would fit them even more. I also think that in combination of cloak it would give the Romulans another reason to build the cloak generator and another way of microing.

I agree with Funnystuff, feds may get some miner ability sometime (maybe holoemitters that make a bunch of fake miners or something cool), but Roms should get the unstable mining since they really need the dilithium for high cost ships and the miner cloaking is only for 13 seconds (trying to fool players with cloaking generator is not too easy, they see an uncloaked unloading miner usually and know to wait for the others to declaok) and needs a cloaking generator

What about making the intel center give the Romulan miners unsafe mining, while the cloaking generator lets them cloak for longer?

Bypassing their own mining safety protocols doesn't sound like the Tal'Shiars normal procedure. The enemies maybe, but not their own.

hmm, yeah i dont see feds letting their ships blow up so easy, if anything fed miners would have very high defense, or a special to increase defense

i could see roms maybe using this however

Heck, why don't we give miners EXP (per completed load or something...?)
You would definitely protect them better; vets would mine faster, haul more, be tougher etc.  And, there'd be room for a whole slew of new special abilities.

Would you promote your freighters to Veteran?

absolutely not

Why do you say that?  It's certainly an interesting idea.  It would have to be balanced properly, obviously, but I don't see any huge issues in that.

Actually I think that is an amazing idea!

And why not promote them to vet?  If it counts against the vet limit then i wouldn't see a problem as getting vet offensive ships can be very powerful as well.

The only worry perhaps would be that people would become paranoid about protecting their mining (even more so than now) and could make the game more defensive in general.

experience for miners probably wont happen.

devs have said before that experience is only for combat ships.

how do you learn to make your ship's defences stronger by pointing a beam at a moon?

any crew on a miner that got clever and experienced would be transferred somewhere better. where they can make a difference.

I would say it wouldn't increase defense necessarily, but the increased experience of the crew could help increase mining rate, ship speed (engine optimizations), shield strength (shield optimizations), or even stick a weapon on there... come on, the experienced miner in the FO universe knows he has the average life expectancy of a Red Shirt in TOS.  One lives long enough and a smart mining ship captain may get the idea to stick a phaser on his ship.

Ok, i know what the devs have said, doesn't stop me from liking the idea.

Next topic... should scouts be able to gain experience?  :D

Yeah, I could see that as becoming a large problem, especially with the fed players who try to turtle already.

Hey, I've got nothing against defensive.  Great fleets laying siege to heavily entrenched locations?  That's still Trek.  Hell, turtling was the Romulan plan in Reunification, anticipating the weight of Starfleet crashing down on Vulcan to dislodge them, but certain that they'd be so entrenched by then that it would take ages to get them out of there.

But I'm also part of the small portion of RTS players who absolutely loathe rush-strats, and second-by-second build orders.  Yeah, I'm a freak.

As has been said time and time again, civilian vessels won't be able to level up :) Check out the FO FAQs on the guide  ^-^ . There will of course be other economic stuff to compensate :)
