Slight changes on the Dominion faction
You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

I do like the idea of the Prototype though, it fits the Dominion setup pretty well. I suppose you could replace it with a series of researches at the yards that unlock that vessel without producing a ship...
The point was to establish a point of equality: for example the Romulans get their opening attack bonus which makes it so they do more damage than the other races if they fire less than 11 shots, equal damage at 11, and less than "normal" damage if the battle lasts more than 11 volleys.
In the same way, the Dominion are supposed to have their production more expensive for a few ships, equal to the other races after a certain number that's different for each ship, then after they're over that threshold their ship production is cheaper than the other races.
One thing I suggested forever ago for the Romulan warbird yard, was giving the shipyard experience so that it ranks up while building and can produce ships for cheaper. This would produce the same mechanic, where the first ship is more expensive and only over time does it match the other races' production (then, in the case of the Dominion, it surpasses the other races). So in the beginning, when warbirds/spam are a serious threat, these ships are brought in line but later, when warbirds and spammed ships can't micro out of battle anymore and their effectiveness drops off severely, their production is more forgiving and their cost continues to match their effectiveness.
This would greatly increase the flexibility of the Dominion but limit the effectiveness of triple-yard production since each yard needs to rank up independently. And while the enemy can't snipe your prototypes anymore, they CAN snipe your shipyard/warbird yard to cut you back to a lower level of efficiency. After all, they killed all your engineers who knew how to crank out ships without any wasted materials. Now you have to go back to the blueprints, and are limited by your mass-production focus/complex and well-guarded warbird designs.

I think prototypes should be able to rank up. Other than that I don't have a problem with them.

Why would they rank up? To rank up, they need to fight... and should you really be risking them in battle at all? No, except as a defensive last resort. Bit of a gamble.

Hell the current construction costs and time could probably be retained as a result.... And this turning into a discussion we've had before lol
I like that idea, all the other factions keep their research why not the Dominion. Too many times I have been killed off due to an enemy which is a much better player having come into my base and killed off all my prototypes.

The B8 rush and B5strategies rely on the prototype fighting together with the main fleet. Of course it's a gamble, but you pay for these ships and if they kill something it's only logical that they rank up. In another thread about Dom prototypes there were some interesting suggestions concerning ranking prototypes already, including boni for all ships of the same type.

True, but those two prototypes are only ones where this makes sense. 2 reasons: 1) the corresponding ship can only be build in limited numbers so every single ship counts and 2) they can take quite some punishment so they won't die like flies. Most dominion ships do however, which is immensely painful if that certain ship takes ages to build, costs a lot and is hugely important like a prototype being a required to build a certain ship type.
No other prototype will ever see combat if it isn't absolutly necessary.

well i play with the dominion 95% of the time and the only ......only ONLY thing that could use some work for them would be the transition to supply mining. this game is balanced for 1v1 and with there cheap ships you can get away with the supply buy 2 times before you should start supply mining. With your starting supply and buying supply two times .....ya that's a lot of supply for any race. Also be the aggressor vs cloakers ......in any case you should always always try to out number your opponent thats how they play....spam spam spam. bugs and bombers work rather well vs the fed warpin rush. and b8 will piss off a borg player. also you have the advantage if you can have the battles take place near your yard. ........the prototype hmmmmm yes the first battle or two you can have it in the fight .....after that ....best to leave it at home. the only thing that i can think of is if you build a prototype and start production of that ship and your opponent changes his production to counter you ...well this does hurt the dominion a bit as prototypes cost a bit but its the loss of time changing over to a new prototype that will hurt the most. and as for the large yard rush ...in a 1v1 that,s a bad idea or at least a big risk to take, and i would only do it if i needed the t15 ....... the other ships cost to much and take toooooo much time, a smart opponent will press there advantage of having more ships on the field and target your economy , a smart opponent wont try to kill that b5 they will keep raiding your already damaged economy and if you think you can cross the map with your b5 raid there base and make it back to your yard ....hahahaha good luck they will run it down and kill it and you will lose your very very expensive b5 prototype. No the dominion like the feds and the klingons and the romulans play to the skill of the player .....the borg are .....in need of a bit of work lol. and as with all the races thay are not done yet.....do try to keep that in mind people ,and mal and boggs are correct with the points thay made.
