Well here it is, folks!  The moment you've all been waiting for!  The title fight!  The battle to end all battles!


In this corner, weighing in at 175 lbs .... he is the fast-building, Norway-loving, Excel II spamming male half of the United Federation of Planets ...

  ---All joking aside....  this sequence of videos is the finally-made demonstration of Mayson vs. Risner that Dominus_Noctis and I made with the recording help of Yandonman.  Dom and I had always believed that Mayson is still excessively overpowered and felt like showing that to the community in a video.  Anyone who plays online knows that playing against a player who chooses Federation (even Risner) means they are in for a DIFFICULT battle if not an automatic loss.  However, Dom and I wanted to show just how head-and-shoulders ABOVE everyone else (even Risner) Mayson remains.----

  So here it is!  A few notes before beginning to address some of the things you will doubtlessly wonder:

OMFG!  >:( Why is Dom going double shipyards and Intrepids with Risner?!!?!?  I would have just gone straight to SFC and clobbered Mayson omfgroflsaucelolroflcopter!!??:pirate:@##@#@$!

• Answer:  Dom and I tried this matchup several times before filming it.  The strategy that he takes is the ONLY one offering even remote resistance.  The others failed HARD. 

Dom only made 1 Turret!  Why didn't he just make two turrets to cover both mining stations and turtle himself in like he was playing the AI  :guns: omfgroflcopterlolLeetffs!!!?:pirate:??@#$^ @#*&$^

• Answer:  Dom doesn't suck.  In previous games we determined that Risner could begin 2 turrets but only finish one by the time Mayson's first Warp-in arrives.  You'll notice that I send my Warp-in to the unfinished Turret on purpose and he immediately cancels it and retreats his vessels.

Dom didn't expand!!!!  If he had just expanded the game would have been sooooomgroflpop easier!  If it were MEEEE I would have Beaten that stupid Mayson Boggz silly!

• Answer:  You're wrong.  Dom is better than you are .  Dom's brain is guided by a dual computer core that knows no such thing as inefficiency.  He is the perfect meld of AI and Human.  He is also Chuck Norris.  He and Chuck Norris will take your virginity.  If you're saying to yourself, "That's impossible.  I've already lost my virginity", then you're wrong.  Dead Wrong.

  There is a moment in the first clip where Yandonman was choking himself with his microphone cord while masturbating.  Thus he cuts out for a few minutes but quickly finishes and continues his commentary in the second clip.  Thanks so much to Yandonman for recording and to Serenity for watching!

  Take your own conclusions from this example.  Bottom line is: this is a video of two good players comparing the two Fed factions.  Right now they are the two most powerful factions apart from maybe Taqroja Klingons being equal to Risner.  We might do other comparisons in the future but it took us a while to find the most efficient strategies for these two factions as it was.

  Imagine Mayson vs. Puretech Dominion or Mijural Romulans ...

  @Zaxxon I think you missed the point.  Dom lost.  Dom was Risner and lost HARD.  He's an awesome player, but Mayson is overpowering.

  @Raven:  Did you even watch the vids?  How exactly was Risner going to get any of those sweet ship out?


  Lol not a single one of you approached the point of this post: to demonstrate how even though both Feds are still the most powerful factions, one is head and shoulders better and needs an adjustment.

I actually watched the video!

A great example of how strong Mayson is.  Risner is a strong avatar as well, but if she gets beaten easily, how are the others supposed to handle the warp-in rush?  Also, you'll notice that Boggz would have his fleet, use his warp ins as cannon fodder, lose them, retreat his norways, and by the time the battle was over he'd have more warp ins.  How is this even fair?

The good news is Optec knows this as well, and warp in is going to be changed soon so it can't come along so early.  Hopefully he'll make the interval a little longer as well.

I have to say....


  The ENTIRE reason that Mayson completely owns the world ....

  Is because of his faster build-time.  I was able to:

• Build my SFC faster than he could put out Intrepids.
• Begin mining resources faster.
• Expand faster and begin mining those resources.
• Put up yards faster and have more resources to build from them.

  That's the real issue here.  In the commentary Yandonman points out clearly (and so do I) that at no point did I have even a remote chance of losing.  I had a full expansion with 2 Eraudi yards making E-2's before Dom could even take miners to his expansion.

how would that help? warp-in would still be free beer, u would just take u more time to get drunk. im against free units in general. they are hard to balance and even if balanced for 1v1 it doesnt scale up well for 2v2 and 3v3 imo. fed players should pay for those ships in some way, if not for 'buying' them maybe for losing them

  I dunno ... we've had the Warp-in debate for some time now.  Optec has said he's going to reduce the firepower of the standard Warp-in a bit.  I'm going to trust that it will balance the Warp-in.


  However I STILL believe that the way to balance Mayson is to get rid of his reduced Build-time.  I mean ... is it even necessary?  Is it so much a part of Mayson that he can't have it removed and be given some other early-game benefit?  Give him an extra-cool ship to the Warp-in or give his science vessel like the Canaveral and the Norway some interesting benefit, but the reduced build time means that he has better access to EVERYTHING.  Resources, ships, turrets, expansions ...

There have been discussions about appropriate penalties for wasting the Warp-Ins. Better off as free with penalties than having to be bought. Screws the main purpose of the Warp-In, paying does.

I still wouldn't mind a Warp-in supply cost .  Feds have the cheapest ships out there in terms of supplies.

  During this game I never even came close to having to buy supplies.

no...I'm too lazy, and didn't have time

but Thats where I thought you were going, and as far as I can remember, Its always been like that.  Risner always gets the short end of the stick
