Feds Early game

You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

I believe first chasis is needed in order to "reward" players who tech up, and who don't just spam Sabers like the other races spam their own destroyers (that's why the Feds are more technology oriented in my opinion--the tech up much easier to their advantage). For Mayson the problem definitely is the Norway. Why build 1 Monsoon when 1 Norway can do much more damage afterall?

IMO some of the major problems lie with Risner being a late game avatar who just doesn't have a very powerful late game. She misses out on a lot of the goodies (ACS torpedo for instance) and doesn't have any dramatic boost to her late game ships. The Phalanx is ok, but very expensive and hard to support because of its expense, and the Avalon just isn't worth it because the fighter screen needs support, but costs an arm and a leg to use... which means you have to actually save up funds before going into battle.... which I'd much rather spend on another much more durable (and selectable!) Intrepid etc.

I personally prefer risner because she offers increased offensive value for the akira (highly useful imho) and reduced research costs for the starship chassis. *ducks to avoid risner bashing*

I have to say i don't like the way the fighters are used... If you could click 5 times to build them in the ships hanger... Then launch them more like Sins of a Solar empire were they are selectable and while launched follow the ship it would be good... It would also be nice if their kills were transfered to the Avalon's ship experience..

However that is based on one game, i'll need to play more before i go complaining.

As much as i like the Pheonix it seems to lack.... killing power? Despite having a high offensive value i just can't work out how to use its magnam phaser well and although its pulse phasers tear up destroyers they don't fire fast enough to go toe to toe with a Battleship. There are enough anti destroyer units in the fed already, Sabres, Norways, Defiants etc. It would seem to be better is Risner had 2 Phasers, 1 Pulse Phaser and the Magnum Phaser on the Phalanx... I donno it just seemed to lack killing power without the staying power of the Sovereign or the Descent....

Considering it is sort the Descents opposite you would expect it to be a bit of a beast?

Monsoon's just don't cut it compared to Sabres in my opinion whether you are Mayson or Risner, the Sabre is fast (insanely so with hyper velocity), it is difficult to impossible to hit with Torpedoes and it has a good defense against beam weapons thus making it a good reaction and hit and fade ship. If it runs into trouble just warp in some heavier ships (instead of teching up early i prefer getting SFC). It also has a long range and is cheap and spammable... That just boades badly for the opponent.

The question is this? Is it improving the Monsoon we need to do... or giving the sabre a little bit of a cut down? I've not played online so i don't know the answer to this...

How do the other destroyers fare against the sabre etc, is it a "god" ship or is it just a very well balanced ship and the Monsoon needs to have a little bit more improvement?

Of course one way to improve it would be to simply make its special cost less (ala Klingon-Fed mixed tech), if it was able to get its proximity torps off earlier it would have a definite role in destroyer destruction (hehe)???
Add in either a little defense boost and you have a ship that fits the defensive role its meant to?

Again i'm new to the game so these are just wild ideas?
