You feel like a battlecruiser is too weak or a race too strong? Go ahead and discuss it here :)

Well, the borg and rushing...that fits like a hot pizza in the fridge. The borg just appear on your screens, warn you once and then they assimilate or destroy everything with their superior technology and overwhelming firepower. Thats the borg i want. Thats the borg we know from the show. And thats the borg we had in 3.0.5  :whistling: ...

Seriously, i dont want to play borg and get outnumbered by the feds or so. Well, they are the borg you know, owning an area of space 20 times the size of the feds, or klingons, or roms...they dont get overwhelmed that easily like now. We really need lower costs for ships or at least some regeneration or weapons upgrades on spheres and assims. Cause those ships are the only ones i can produce in relatively large numbers to defend myself.

I ran a test to check Sphere capability vs large fleets.  I loaded a spamtastic dom AI (in my experience, it pumps out about 3 times the ships as any other race in the same amount of time) and tried to fight it with primarily spheres.  In the beginning I built 3 Assims, and researched Boarding to shore up my defenses.  The 20+ dom ships I stole that way helped me hold the line for a while.

This let me work on the sphere-test while the Dom continued their growing mega-spam.

I found that I could break their fleet effeciently using the following fleet.

3 Spheres with the following Config - Prime, Prime, Beam, Beam
3 Spheres with the following Config - Regen, Regen, Regen, Beam
3 Spheres with the following Config - Prime, Prime, Prime, Torp
2 Spheres with the following Config - Prime, Beam, Beam, Beam

Yes, 11 spheres.  They tore down a titanicly sized fleet (there were easily 12 V-13 and 6 Breen Battleships, along with a number of bombers, breen cruisers, T-15s, S-2s, and bugships that was excessive enough that I didn't even try to count) and then were able to sail into the base, continuing their assault effectively enough to win the game.

End result numbers - 2 surviving type 1, all 3 type 2 lived, 1 type 3 lived, 1 type 4 lived.  The 3 and 4 types drew the most bug-ship ramming attempts that cost some of them their lives.

The Prime modules are essential, however.  They provide a high boost to offense, and simultaneously minimize special weapon use against the spheres.  I've tried that as Assim, and it failed, so the Prime is the key to making it work.

I'm gonna try similar with Assim later.  I think Assim's key will be Pyramids, but I'm not certain how yet.

that's my point u need to assim rush at the outset. if not... . spheres in of themselves do not do much. weve seen that well in advance in 3.05. the prime module is good for sure, but will it help late game that is teh main crux atm.

As i keep saying, i love the borg's new style, but do not see much fleshing out later in game. that's all im saying :)

the prime module is good, but the costs etc still do not leave the spheres with much afo

Never said I rushed.  Those Assims never left my mining expansion.  Nor did their conquests.  I upgraded the weapons on the Assimilation Matrix to let it be the primary defence of my base, with the early parts of the sphere fleet supporting until the spheres were deployed.

I tried to handle Assim instead of Optimize, btw.  It's resource drain put me behind, and kept me behind.  Optimize's discount and the recycling center are vital.

:) cool.

just fyi - my fleet of spheres and cubes which were blown to bits byt he feddies in MP, were at offense 103 - retrofitted with primemodules :)

the defense of  53 was still there (not the best :)). While i took out his fleets, I was numerically inferior.

but again it was cos i sat at my base instead of moving around and starting off at him.

it should be noted that using optimize assim rush still puts u pretty much after fed warpin
s first wave is complete and the sabres are about 2-3, due to the 30 connections consumed per assim..

so it isnt actually rush time. it;s just called a rush cos it;s the first two ships u get out and attack with :).

It's basically the new borg style. following that sequence of attack weaken and retreat, attack weaken and retreat till u get a more robust fleet of a few more sphere primes etc.
Cos with the birg, if u have to wait to get resources and then build, it is better served using that spare time to your advantage. cos in teh time that resources build, the enemy has been pumping out ships.
this specific element is central to borg play - no wasting time, cos time wasted is time earned by the opponent.

I fnd this to be and interesting Tsun Tsu like paradox on teh battlefield. Perfect for the FO borg's art of war  :borg:.

New test done.  Due to an AI behavior, as Optimize, i ate a dominion construction ship right away.  So, i took the opportunity to test Adaptors in 3.06.

Fail.  Adaptors only weapon, being that torpedo, is too inaccurate to hit cruiser and below, and it's damage is too low to bring down battleships.  It's defense is too low to take on much in the way of battleships either, making it the second worst combat ship in the game.  It is only exceeded by...the Chor.  That's right, the only ship less useful in a fight is a construction ship.

Even with 2 adaptation modules, the adaptors were being torn apart with great speed.

As long as the oos bug prevents games with more than 2 players the borg "rush" might work... but i still don´t like it.

Well, that goon, install //www.fleetops.net/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,3/topic,5224.msg86870/#msg86870 and test the borg in different games.
