The Beauty of Numbers
We are just finalizing the last parts of the Interface redo to finish the next, large patch. If you read the forums closely, you might have noticed, that we are up to changing a large portion of the balancing system. We are also adding many new gameplay aspects. Some features however have been delayed to a following patch, in order to speed development up and give you a new update as soon as possible. We don't want to get another wait period like the one you had before the 3.0 release.
Cloaking and Detection
The next patch will probably be the largest patch we made since the release of version 3. It will feature a lot of new content - like the previously announced ingame interface redo - a ton of balancing improvements and many new features, with some not even yet revealed!
A New Development Blog
As apart of giving the community a better understanding and a better look into the development of Fleet Ops, you can now visit a development blog run by Zeich. He joined our modeling team a few years back and made many of the new Federation models you saw in the last patches, like the Ambassador for example. I'm quite sure you will find a few yet unrevealed news on his page in the future.
Interface Additions
Besides a complete new look, the new user interface will also give you a few new features, to give you a better control and feeling. But lets start with the Klingon interface screenshots. We tried to bring it as close to the common dark but yet advanced bridge feeling, as you can see throughout the movies and shows.
The Creeping - Part 1: Concepts
Today we'd like to show you some first behind-the-scenes content of Fleet Operations, to learn more about how new features are planned, evaluated and implemented during development.
3.0.8 Preview: Interface (Update)
There are still some elements in Fleet Operations that haven't changed sice the very first release of beta 1.0 in 2003. One of them you sure have seen quite often: the ingame user interface. For the upcoming version 3.0.8 of Fleet Operations along with many other additions and improvements, a completely redesigned user interface will make it's way into the mod.
Preview: New Borg Features
We already discussed the veteran vessels in the past newsposts, but havent talked much about the Borg. The collective will get a large redo in 3.0.6 touching many of the game mechanics.
Preview: Veteran Abilities
We want to take a closer look at the new veteran vessels and their unique abilities today. Similar to the officer abilities vessels already get when reaching an officer rank, veteran abilities are usually passive and apply all the time, but some units also gain new active abilities. Most veteran abilities will be linked to a model, effect or weapon change, but not all of these optically changes will be included in the 3.0.6 patch, but in future patches. Patch 3.0.6 will feature the complete gameplay aspect of veteran abilities.
Preview: Patch 3.0.6 Content and Updates
As already anounced in some forum topics, the next patch 3.0.6 will feature a lot of changes and new features, like the Veteran Vessels. I want to present you a few of those inovations today.
Heroes of the day
One of the features requested most in the forums were hero units, like known from some other real-time-strategy games. Till now we always stated that we do not want to include "game-defining" hero units, as Fleet Operations is focused on fleet combat. But you could read some small hints that we plan to implement something similar to hero units in the future. Well, the time has come!
