Yup I was using bog standard windows Xp, There's no need to Run windows 7 in a virtual machine if you don't have to.

The game played fast enough from what I could tell so I suggest you give it a try

On the Windows 7 thing, most virtual machines are optimised for Windowd XP. Not right but it's just what they have been doing the past few years.

As for VMware, Vmware is actually free,  I have a license to it that I got for free. It's got that VMGL plugin that you can set up to get full native 3d acceleration from your graphic card but it's a pain to set up.

Point is thought you can run Fleet Ops in full screen through a virtual machine and it works. I prefer to do it through Wine however without Tunngle working in Wine it's not going to happen on that end for a while

First one... that is not correct.... mostly because it isn't the virtual machine that makes the difference its the virtualized OS... Windows XP was never designed to run in a virtual environment ... Windows 7 was... most of this is because Windows 7 was built on 2008 server not vista. Though I supposed they could have added the feature anyways if they wanted too, but in the end it is because 2008 was designed to run on the Cloud and in other datacenter scenarios.

2) I was referring to VMware workstation and fusion... which do cost, but most of the reason they do is because all the set up for you all you have to do to enable GL in those versions is one check box in the settings.

3) As for its effectiveness ya unless something changes I think I am going to abandon the wine effort... it runs just fine on my Windows 7 install.
