dont worry it is not your fault. (:

EDIT* My HP driver support says im behind on updates 2 YEARS!!!. Obviously the CD they sent me for recovery has a pre-historic driver version

updating drivers is good. but sometimes it makes things worse. i have the same graphics chip as you.

my manufacturer is Maxdata (they went bankrupt) and they supplied me with working drivers preinstalled, and on the recovery disk.

these supplied drivers work perfectly with fleet ops. but if i update to the latest drivers from intel (who make our chips) fleet ops behaves badly. i'd suggest trying out the latest drivers though, they usually are better. just in my case they were worse.

well it works ALOT better however it isnt exactly great play... huge battles are pretty much impossible because it is a lag fest unfortunetly.

that shouldn't happen on your comp. i'd consider having it checked out. do some tests etc.

Aye, I suspect that after two year with no updates whatsoever, then your pc is probably in dire need of a tune up :). Nothing too drastic; just a bit of maintenance to bring it's shine back up.

well, explosions cause even the slightest out of date computer to lag, so I wouldn't be supprised if it cleared up if you went and deleated the explosions in the game, or did a little editing to tone them down.  that is if you know how, and don't play online

Just depends a whole lot on tuning, configuration and what all is running in the background taking up resources etc.

Computers are not exact in this fashion. You can build two 'identical' machines and have them behave differently in certain situations. Especially over time when user modifications result in changes to the registry, fragmentation of the hard drive. Etc.

Yep, ideally I'd probably say a good old format would be in order every 6months for a well used pc. It just clears everything up in the purest possible way. Alas, a format is not something that every person is comfortable doing (or able to!)

hmm i do that too. However it can be kind of a pain but it speeds up my system immensely

well.. it seems to be the maps nebuales, planets and asteriod fields can give me the most lag. i deleted them from maps and now i just play in those maps against AI. i removed explosions easily so they are no longer a problem. However , there is immense lag when looking at a group of ships together (like in a base for example). this problem is still unsolved

well, 1 you should turn your graphics detail down real low, and 2, try playing at a smaller resolution.  that helped me

You could try removing the ships :ermm:

I get lag from time to time too but I find it usually subsides after I've visited an area for the first time (presumably as the pc loads the new material into memory and then keeps it there). Subsequent visits tend to be nice and smooth.
