It works for me and I can even host. I hope this is a permanent solution.

It is nice that it works for someone :)

I think that it would be a good idea to activate the DMZ only when needed. It is not very safe to keep all ports open from NAT when it isn't required.

I shall take that into account.

My router is set correctly for games and this is the first game I've run into with this error.  Its only certain people as well.

Can anybody tell me how I could make a proper two-way connection without the DMZ feature?

A lan connection, or over the internet?

The lan connection is no problem. It's always the gamespy connection.

EDIT: That gamespy problem can be overcome by using hamachi and playing over that VPN instead. But curently nobody seems to like it.

The changing to DMZ-computer is no solution at all. Right now it doesn't work a all.

DOCa Cola wrote:you have to forward some ports in order to host. these are described in the nethelp.txt in the data folder or from the help button at the bottom in the lobby

The nethelp.txt says:

DirectPlay 8 Ports
2300..2400 UDP inbound and outbound
6073          TCP inbound and outbound

GameSpy Ports
80        TCP, outbound
6500    UDP, inbound
6667    TCP, outbound
13139  UDP, inbound and outbound
27900  UDP, inbound and outbound
28900  TCP, outbound
29900  TCP, outbound
29901  TCP, outbound

Can anybody help me to use that information?

If you have put your computer to DMZ it should have same effect as forwarding ports. In DMZ all ports are forwarded instead of certain selected.

If you have firewall software , you should allow also incoming connections for Armada2.exe to be able to host. (The port forwarding can be done to firewall software too, but usually it is not necessary, because the firewall should automatically allow traffic to the program from right ports when incoming traffic is allowed.)

So you are right. I tested the port forwarding (thanks to mort for his endless paitence, and cbosdell for turning his firewall down again), which was not easy to apply on my strange modem/router and failed again. I still see no system in the cases I can play online or not. Especially the fact, that chat is possible and all other internet services too. Probably the dynamical external IP is an additional handicap.

Nevertheless all experiences show, that there's nothing i can do about it, except taking the internetprovieder to task about this shortcomings. Unfortunatly service centers appear to be neither intelligent nor cooperative.
