Sometimes when i try to join a game using lamespy it says that the host has been lost. Why does it do this?

If the host left, or they are still loading the game or if their game crashes, it won't let you join.

Hey everybody!

I can't see that topic to be resolved and encountered that problem myself now (to be eactly, I'm ancountering it for the second time now).  :pinch:

This evening I was playing three games with le_deimos without any problems occurring. Then we wanted to do a 2vs2. First nobody (including myself) couldn't join the game set up by redmanmark, then we tried to let le_deimos host. It was possible for me to join that game, but not for redmanmark then. Further I couldn't join a game by cbosdell and dominus as well, whereas many others could. I don't know if redmanmark would have been able to, as he left earlier.

As you see this is a really annoying problem and i can't see a concept behind it.  :crybaby:

Remarks:
Even rebooting didn't help it.
The games of cbosdell, dominus and deimos were always joinable by others.
I've got a W-LAN-router connected to DSL.

Thanks in advance.

Redmanmark can join my games... I think I'm one of the very few people he can join sadly  :(

Anybody know what router problems could contribute?

Perhaps this is of some help. I'll give that "DMZ host"-stuff a try.

STAR TREK: ARMADA II
NETWORK HELP GUIDE
====================

[...]

GameSpy, Internet Play, and Shared Internet Connections

If you are having difficulty creating or joining games, or if
other people are unable to join your GameSpy or Internet game,
then you may get better results after adjusting your network
configuration.  There are two aspects to this, NAT
(network address translator) devices, and firewalls.

A NAT is usually a router or switch which permits multiple
home computers to share a single cable or DSL modem
connection on a single IP address.  NAT devices work by
making your internally known IP address (that is, the address
you are known by on your home network) be different from your
externally known IP address (the address that you are known
by on the public internet.)  This usually means that other
people are unable to see games that you create.  Your NAT,
router or swtich should provide a way to set up a single
computer as a "DMZ host".  See your NAT, router or switches
manual for more details.  Some NAT's may also prevent you
from joining a game.  Again, setting up your computer as
the "DMZ host" for the network should help.

Moving your system to become the "DMZ host" will make
it more exposed to the internet and at a potential risk for
security.  It is recommended that you consult with your ISP
or network administrator before making this change.

It will say the host has been lost if the host is in the map selection screen.  that has happend to me too. mabye they were in the map selection screen half the time it said this. But sometimes the host is just lost.

{just what i have observed}

When I used lamespy at weekend, I had those "host has been lost" messages in almost any game I tried to join. I reconfigured my NAT firewall (first the ports, after that when it proved ineffective the DMZ) , but it didn't solve that problem totally. I also bypassed my NAT but it didn't have any effect either.

Hi mimesot, you got that wrong... the game i hosted Le_deimos and Cbosdell could both join but you couldnt... and yes i can join Cbosdells game and Dominus but unfortunately as Dominus stated i can only join very few games but this isn't his fault or anyone else but on my ISP...

its more to do with the way the world works, ISP depending where people are in the world have to go through other pipes and so on so people can join together and some ISP just arent on terms with everyone and so i just can't join but i can host to nearly everyone given a few exceptions here and there... like your case and Zebh's :(

Hell, that's a long sentence.
Anyway, I belive you are right and I didn't state everyting correctly. Sorry for that.

I may undersand, that the different ISPs we use may have different manner of working (although I have no idea of how network programming actually works) but I can't get why the compatibility of providers is not transitive. If A can play with B and B with C, why not A with C?

Do these problems occur with different VPNs too, like hamachi? If not, we could chance over to hamachi if that problem occurs again.

Though it was much better it some internet specialist could resolve that problem. (Please, Please)

I am not an internet specialist but ive never had any problems when i use hamachi

I think that there shouldn't be this kind of problem with hamachi, because the"internet routing" is made by hamachi, not lamespy.

I tried to activate this DMZ-stuff, which was off per default. Can somebody host me a game so I can try?
