Well, he said he had to plug in a white adaptor, but it's really not too descriptive.  After reading the posts again, it really seems similar to the issue I had.  You might be right and the adaptor isn't working or is cheap, etc.  ISS, can you show us what the ports on your video card and monitor look like?  and do you have DVI and VGA ports on your monitor?  I think more specific information would be helpful. :D

Hm...

If I looked at the pics you posted correctly, then I have two DVI ports in the back of my computer, and one VGA port on my monitor. The white adapter looks like the one here:

If I read something right, my VGA connection cable is male, and the adapter is female

Sounds very similar to what I have, except my monitor has a DVI port as well, but using it was causing the problem.  I would only have 2 resolution options until I used a vga adaptor on my graphics card DVI port and had my vga cable into my vga monitor port.  Some things you could try is using the other DVI port on your graphics card, and make sure you've done windows update and also have gotten the most recent driver for your graphics card.  Barring that, see if you can buy another adaptor and see if that works for you.

Failing that, just keep using google searches and sifting through forums.  Someone out there has had the exact same problem, and I'm sure someone has solved it for them.
