Higher Resolution?

On my old computer, I had a maximum resolution of 1280x1024. When the new computer that I'm currently on came, we used the same monitor to save money and because it's in perfectly good condition. For some reason, though, the max resolution I can get when I got to the "Properties" area is 1024x768.

Anyone know why this might be the case? I'm working on making new beauty shots for FO and possibly another Enterprise-D screenshot pack. Any help would be highly appreciated

Are your drivers up to date, etc.?  You might want to list some specs and what kind of monitor, graphics card, and OS you have, for the more tech-savvy.  Also, have you checked it out the forums of your video card?  Usually there's a few with the same problem, etc.

Specs:

Dell Studio XPS 8100
Intel Core i5 CPU      750 @ 2.67 GHz
2.67 GHz
6.00 GB of RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit OS

I'm afraid I don't know what model type my monitor itself is. Never had to bother with it before

Check to see if your desktop is its highest level?? It should be available by right clicking on your desktop, and choosing screen resolution. Other than that i dont have a clue.

Yeah, thats what I did to check and make sure nothing was wrong, but there were only two resolutions: Low and High. Low was 800x600, and high only went up to 1024x768  :ermm:

Have you tried setting screen resolution via your graphics card? My nvidia card comes with it's own resolution options I know :)

Just tried it, and it keeps saying that my display doesn't support it. I know for a fact that it does. Maybe its due to the fact that I have to plug in a white adapter to the computer so that the monitor and computer will work together?

I would like he said look at your desktop, iam running a optiplexgx270, with a 512 mb game card and a screen resolutiuon 1920x1080at 60 htz, when i hooked up the new monitor, it came with a special adapter, i hope this make sense it adapted to the game card does this help at all? and a cable. This system is a 32 bit 2.8 windows xp. Iam limited to what i can do with a computer, my old resolution was 1280x1024. Yes i think thats what iam getting at, anyways when i hooked up the new monitor, i had to use this adapter, plus a cable that went into the monitor, which then went into the computer, so i bought a new monitor, for my old computer, the opp of what youre doing. Is your monitor a high resolution, wide screen? enterprise-d

May be you are talking about a DMI adapter?

That might be it.  My Nvidia Graphics card has 2 DVI ports for video to the monitor.  My monitor has DVI and VGA ports.  For some reason, I couldn't get the resolution for it through DVI on my monitor, and needed to buy an adaptor so that I could hook up to the VGA port on my monitor, and then I got all the settings.

So basically:  Video card DVI->DVI cable->DVI to VGA adaptor-> VGA port on my monitor.  You may want to try an adapter as Navyguy suggests to see if that works for you.

Gonna need to find out what half that stuff means first  I'm not all that computer-hardware-techstuff savvy. Know a few things here and there, but not enough to make a career out of it  :sweatdrop: Once I get this stuff figured out, hopefully it'll work, cause my parents have no interest in buying a new monitor.

Hurray for the internet! :woot:

DVI cable

DVI port

VGA port

VGA cable

DVI to VGA adaptor

You'll need to figure out if it's male to male, female to male and whatnot, but a cheap adaptor might fix your problems.

Actually, he commented he is using ALREADY an adaptor. May be it's a cheap one that doesn't correctly transmit the resolution capacities of the monitor or something like that, so Windows limits the available resolutions.
