(sorry in advance if the pictures mess up your forum)

Hi, I installed your conversion today, it seems great but I am currently experiencing a bug when I enter game.

I thought it would be simpler if i just attached screenshots. please see below:

this one is from the loading screen

[img width=600]http://i.imgur.com/Fxbzo.png[/img]

and this one is from ingame, as you can see almost all of the boxes are missing.

For reference my computer specs are:

Windows 7 64-bit home
Intel core i7 @ 3.07ghz
Gigabyte Geforce GT 430 1024MB
6GB RAM

I Dont have STA II installed itself, I have it mounted on a virtual drive using Alcohol 120%.

any help?

thanks

hi and welcome.

a problem which has the same symptoms as this is already known to affect gtx 400/500 series cards.

it seems like your gt 430 is affected as well.

try this fix:

open the following file:

C:UsersnameAppDataRoamingStar Trek Armada II Fleet Operationsfodata.ini

you can also open this file by typing the following into run:

%appdata%Star Trek Armada II Fleet Operationsfodata.ini

this file should be opened with notepad (or wordpad or some other text editor of your choice)

change
D3D9=false
to
D3D9=true

this is unsupported, and may cause other problems with stuff like screenshots.

if it works then it appears more cards (maybe even the entire geforce 400/500 series) are affected by this bug.

EDIT:

you can shrink images to fit the forum with the following bbcode:

Code: Select all
[img width=600]<link to image>[/img]

or for a clickable image:

Code: Select all
[url=<link for click>][img width=600]<link to image>[/img][/url]

600 is the width of the forum space for images. the aspect ratio will be kept and height modified automatically.

so your images would be:

[nobbc][img width=600]http://i.imgur.com/crf1Y.png[/img]
and
[img width=600]http://i.imgur.com/Fxbzo.png[/img][/nobbc]

Hi, thanks for the reply (and how to shrink the images).

The fix works to begin with, the loading screen works now but before it fully loads it throws up an error message (the game crashes), I screenshotted them below:

It's strange because the loading page worked fine then it crashes me out. I should re-iterate that I am just using a virtual copy of amarda 2 rather than actually having a CD.

I know that my computer had some issues because it decided it wanted to use its integrated card rather than the GT540M - have you made absolutely sure that your computer is using the correct card?

that crash is related to the unsupported D3D9 mode which is under development and still has many flaws. i hope that we can implement the d3d9 mode real soon...
we have some other changes ready that may fix the legacy d3d8 mode until we are ready with the new graphic engine implementation.

that sucks, looks like if u stick with dx8 you get the graphics bug, and if u use dx9 you get the crash to desktop :(

it appears there's nothing you can do with the current fleetops version, unless new graphics drivers are released.

i dont think the i7 950 has any integrated (to the processor graphics) maybe if your chipset has integrated graphics, you could switch to use it, or remove your gt 430, making everything use the integrated graphics. fleetops is mostly processor intensive, i use integrated graphics and a core duo to run fleetops fine. so a i7 with integrated graphics should easily deal with fleetops.

if you dont have integrated graphics you could try buy a budget graphics card and swap it for your gt 430.

thank you all for your help/advice.

fake edit: I'm using a GTX 570 apparently :ermm:

and ive checked, it is using that card, I had a derp moment when i thought it wasnt.

I'll wait until, as DOCa mentioned, a fix comes out.

thanks  :thumbsup:
